Lindfield Box and Station remodelling.

Anybody passing thru Lindfield NSW will notice the station overhead pedestrian walkway and booking office being remodelled.

In addition to the booking office relocation the roof has also been removed from the precast concrete signal box on the Up end of platforms 2/3 and the lever frame lifted out and placed along side the Pacific Hwy entrance. The frame can be readily seen from the pedestrian walkway.

I assume the box is due for demolition shortly as a temporary board fence has been erected around the signal box.

It was only a small box, when are locals going to lobby for their heritage preservation, future generations would like to see things like that still place.

The new lift and power room will go more or less where the old signal box was. The signal box was very ugly, the one at Gordon is much nicer.

I hope that they invest some money towards linking the terminal road platform 2 to the up and down shore lines at the Hornsby end of the station, like the arrangement at Gordon.

Early photos from the single track era show most of the stations, including Lindfield, had an open lever frame under the projecting station roof at the entrance end, where the ticket office was later located at Roseville, Killara and Turramurra (and probably Wahroongah, Waitara and possibly Warrawee, although it had only a single platform originally).

On double tracking, of course these lost any point controls but presumably were kept for signal operation until automatic signals were introduced, I guess with electrification.

Chatswood and Gordon kept these frames and a wooden signal box was built around them. Does anyone know when Lindfield got its separate box?

What is happening to the Lindfield frame? Is it intended to replace it on the station somewhere?

The old lever frame has disappeared.

The base for the lift on Platform1 has be dug, and one layer of concrete poured.

The progress of the lift on platform 2/3 is hidden by hoarding.

A start had been made on the piling on the new longer ramp on the highway side.

FYI, the booking office on the bridge has been replaced by a temporary BO in a custom modified 40 ISO container which is located on the Highway where the Bank used to be.

Progress is being made pouring the concrete base for the P1 lift.

Piles for the west side ramp and station buildings are starting to be poured.

Given talk about quad track from Chatswood to Gordon, it is not clear if these new piles leave room for a fourth track on the west side, including a platform?
