I don't want to perpetuate a distraction from the thread, but MLR wants to be part of an integrated ticketing system but the government doesn't have one and is dominated by bus interests and hates trams with a vengeance - it regards MLR as a private 'tourist' venture and probably wishes it could go away because it makes people like trams. In spite of the fare structure MLR is attracting large growth in commuter patronage, to the extent that people even park and ride to it shunning adjacent State Transit bus services. Hopefully it will be the foot in the door. It does however offer weeklies etc to commuters.

MLR is the only public transport operator left in Sydney that doesn't receive an operating subsidy from the government and makes a profit - how's that for something so pushed out into the political cold!

Just out of interest what do you mean by dominated by bus interests? Are you referring to the fact that the government owns State Transit?
