Lynbrook? Although it's still on the in-the-future-sometime list

That proposed station next to the quarry before Lillydale? It's name escapes my memory.

Ah ok, already been guessed then. Thanks alstom_888m.

So in that case I will have a stab at Point Cook?

Not:

4th Loop station
Melbourne Airport
Deer Park West
East Preston (and environs)
Cave Hill
Coolaroo
Patilous(?)
Elwood
Cranbourne East
Lynbrook
Point Cook

Clue 1:

The station would have been on a single line and was not electrified at the time.

Clue 2:

The station was planned in the mid 20's and would only have seen steam traffic.

The direct Frankston - Mornington line, but I can't recall the station names. IIRC the easement was gazetted.

'Planned' implies a degree of formality which 'proposed' doesn't: there are lots of proposals (eg the recent scheme from the Greens),

Not anywhere near Frankston. The notion of "planned" is pretty much on the mark. I've seen a drawn plan of this station complete with subdivision and roads, etc.

I know this might sounds strange, but could it be East Warburton? I recall reading somewhere about a station there, that may or may not have been built.

The station actually had a name and would not have been between Belgrave and Selby.

Cardinia, between Menzies Creek and Clematis, where the line commands a view to the south. This was the spot where the VR commissioners' train would pause for lunch, and was subsequently the location of Marshall Halt.

Chelsea Heights: the most misapplied name in subdivision history.
One would really have to back up to the Dandenongs to get anything high above Chelsea.
A near contender is Waverley Gardens: Springvale industrial flats.
Surprisingly, Garden City really did succeed in its aim.
