Hmmmm ... how would it have worked if the 2am lockout still applied?

It's not so good when it finishes, either, if you're at latitude 51 degrees North, and daylight saving time continues until the last weekend of October. Then sunset goes from 18:00 to 17:00, and suddenly it's dark when everyone leaves work.

And I have to get used to the 10 hour time difference for a short period before it goes to 11 hours.

I suppose I should explain that further. Whilst I don't mind having Daylight Saving during the summer, here in Australia, Mark, DS continues until the first week of April
Which creates the absurdity of a sunrise later than that on the day of the winter solstice.

That's an earlier finish, relative to the seasons, than it is over here - we carry on for another 3-4 weeks, depending on when the relevant weekend falls.

Hmmm, that's the sort of thing I take as a challenge: time for some comparisons...
I'll start with Cambridge. I think the dates of interest are the autumn equinox (24 September this year, I think), the last day of British Summer Time (i.e. daylight saving) (this year, Saturday 25th October), the following day, and the winter solstice (December 21st). The times listed are sunrise and sunset on each day.
24/09/08 (BST): 06:49, 18:52
24/10/08 (BST): 07:43, 17:43
25/10/08 (GMT): 06:45, 16:41
21/12/08 (GMT): 08:07, 15:49
Having worked out the numbers, I'm surprised the sunrise on the last day of daylight saving is so close to that on the winter solstice. Then again, I don't usually take much notice of what's going on at that time in the morning 
Now I'll do the same for Melbourne.
24/03/09 (AEDT): 07:26, 19:27
04/04/09 (AEDT): 07:36, 19:10
05/04/09 (AEST): 06:37, 18:09
21/06/09 (AEST): 07:35, 17:08
Almost, but not quite
Winter solstice sunrise is just earlier than on the last day of daylight saving time.

Here the effect is quite obvious, though still not very pronounced.
From my point of view, I think I'm more impressed that you have such a long period of the year during which the sunrise time varies so little - within a single hour. It's all a matter of latitude, of course...

Which is why the northern states don't need and don't want daylight saving!

We had a trial back in the early 90's and they conducted a referendum which resulted in a NO vote for DST.
A majority of people in SEQ support it but the rest of QLD doesn't and this means it isn't a vote winner for either party.
When are the mexicans going to have a referendum on this issue ?

Why should we? Twice a year we have to change the time on the few clocks that don't automagically update. It's not exactly the biggest problem right now - why kick up a stink with a vote about it?

I hate daylight saving, get rid of it, Most of the people I work or live with hates daylight saving, Try going to sleep at 8pm for a 4am start the next day, yeah good luck!!!!

Why ? So it shuts up these Southerners who think Queensland should change their clocks when we already had the say on the matter.
We have had a vote so now it's your turn or you afraid that DST will get rejected if they have a referendum ?
