From what i understand, the problem with the El Zorro train is that 9' 6" containers cannot be loaded onto their train. The train wouldnt go through the Geelong Tunnel. PN/Patricks have low flat wagons which would allow these containers to go into the tunnel at Geelong, where as the wagons El Zorro have are too high.

So what's the story hear ?

Did WestVic give El Zorro the flick

Or did El Zorro call It a day, and will now focuss on It's Melbourne Portland ran.

I remember someone say that El Zorro was to start a Melbourne - Ballarat service at the expense of their Warrnambool service ?

I think you work it out for yourself. El Zorro running late all the time.. No where near enough wagons to meet needs of freight. Also to LowndesJ515 i belelve you were right about the high cube containers. Hight problem when they were empty on the tunnel. I did mention months and months ago in this thread that changes were likely. I didn't expect this mob to last so long. So what do we blame for there downfall. Colac? Loco's? Wagons? I think every little thing has in there own way cost El Zorro this contract. There are 3 red carded wagons in warrnambool also so will be intersting to see how they get back to melbourne. 2 with flats and 1 bent i Beleive.

So , we have an amateur "Legal Eagle" expressing a valued opinion and he doesn't even know what it's called. Rolling Eyes

Try RESTRAINT OF TRADE and maybe you could elaborate on the basis for your legal opinion.

What do you see as being the actual restraint Question

Has this actually been confirmed, outside of posts on here?

As in tomorrow, or in a weeks time?

Pity that it usually goes through Melbourne and Geelong during darkness, makes it harder to photograph.

And when it runs late, I am usually headed in the opposite direction on a train and unable to chase it. Evil or Very Mad

Are you sure QuestionQuestionQuestionQuestion

Is there enough loading for 2 operators perhaps QuestionQuestion Wink

If not, T'is a sad day for El Zorro... Sad:

Has this actually been confirmed, outside of posts on here?

As in tomorrow, or in a weeks time Question

So what's the story hear Question

Did WestVic give El Zorro the flick...
Or did El Zorro call It a day, meaning they will now focuss on It's Melbourne - Portland Minerial Sands traffic Question

I think you can work it out for yourself what has caused El Zorro's downfall... Lets see: El Zorro running late all the time... No where near enough of the required number of wagons to meet the needs of freight agent (that being WestVic Container Handling). So what do we blame for El Zorro's downfall Question ... The abolishing of Colac as a Train-Order Crossing Stn Question Shortage of Loco's & Wagons Question

I honestly didn't expect this mob to last so long Exclamation

Rememer now, I did mention now months & months ago, in this very thread that changes were likely & most definately in the wind...
I think every little thing has in it's own way cost El Zorro this contract...
FYI, there are currently 3 red-carded wagons in Warrnambool Yard, so will be interesting to see how they get these back to Melbourne Question Twisted Evil 2 with flats & 1 bent I beleive...

I think from this information, El Zorro would have a good case for "Restraint of Trade"

What do you see as being the actual restraint BTW Question

Well where does one start... Firstly the Motive Power, these antiques belong in a museum, as did the rolling stock used on the service when El Zorro first took over the service (you know, those "bright Tangerine painted ones")

This coupled with El Zorro's inherant inability to source & yet secure more "modern wagons" caperable of the task at hand (those Tangerine painted rollin' antiques definately arn't, look at the wagon that can only take MTY Boxes only, what a waste of space even having it on the train, thank goodness it's long since been red-carded) has come back to bite & bite hard it has, it would seem Exclamation
As for the 2 other wagons, well where are these, I haven't seen them in the yard Question I've only seen the Shunters Wagon ( the one with the bent frame, that can only be used for MTY Boxes only) which is parked in the Tank Rd of Warrnambool Yard & has been for some close to 4 weeks now Exclamation Rolling Eyes

Leasing the wagons that make up the majority ofhe train (let alone S311 for that brief period, when it chose to co-operate that is & wasn't knocked out due to faults) off CFCLA would have to be a killer, this as well as the now apparent lack of Train-Order Crossing Points (other then Camperdown & Geelong) won't have helped matters much... is it any wonder PN is being welcomed back with open arms (if the rumours are to be believed)...

The term "Vintage Antique Renta-Wrecks" suits the locos used on the Warrnambool Service well...

Althrough, I throught the aim of preservation was to preserve these units for future generations Question Rolling Eyes ...

Yes by all means have them out earning income for their custiodians, but not every single day... They won't last long if this is kept up... Althrough it seems El Zorro don't have many options in this department through do they Exclamation It seems their fleet solely consists of Hired "Vintage Antique Museum Piece Renta-Wrecks" bar 2 or 3 locos which El Zorro themselves own, being S302 & Y's 109 & 145...

Althrough having said that... having SRHC's B74 & T378 together for that the one-week period was nice... the train reallly did look like a true replica of the VR's Warrnambool Goods in the late 70's/early 80's before VicRail & the horrible TeaCup scheme came along...

And preserved these locos have been, but I ask you. Where would a group get the money to operate said "rent-a-wrecks" if they took them off hire?

For most groups now days the big bread and butter comes from loco hire. I don't like it either but thats the nature of the beast, we can have them running every day, earning their keep...which goes straight back in to the locos and other assorted rollingstock. Or we can limit the useage they get on hire, make stuff all money and have limited means financially to maintain them.

So unless someone comes along with deep pockets, the system works well as is...not to mention the photo ops Razz
