One good turn deserves another (that is thanks, not the new clue).
Was this station the site of a massacre?

I can't really get Learmonth, but it helps fill a gap.

It's not Learmonth.
Thought this one would go quickly. Must be too much fluff in the clue.

Ethanol is C2H(HOOH), and I can't get anything out of CCHHOOO either.
I was trying for Christchurch (NZ, and really butane, not butanol), and Crich (UK, and not even ethane, let alone ethanol).
We play jokes which are academical,
Legal, classical, even chemical...

It's a much simpler mix I'm after.

Valvegear hits a six. Or catches the one I tried to hit. Forgot I was batting.
Athlone it is. Athlone is a mix (anagram) of the word ethanol.
