What brand of engine is in the 73 class loco based at Horsham
Cat or Cummins?
and are all of the 73 class fitted with the same engines?

A no 1

The 73 class are fitted with Caterpillar engines producing 650hp.

Transmission is via Cardan Shaft with sandboxes integrated into the handrail supports.

As 4426_No_2_end said, the 73s have Cats, D379s to be specific. They are fitted with Voith hydraulic transmissions. You have to keep the water up or expect cracked heads. Other than that they are almost unbreakable (as long as you don't use the dyno, or you'll get broken axles).
