V/Line cannot run what they have now let alone running more services.They should be looking at there on time departures and arrivals.They are smeg when it comes to customer service.

To you it may seem like endless waffling.
The above quote says no increase in services in the immediate future.
What about in 2 to 5 years when demand is greater.
Will it be Ok then to forecast that maybe in 2013 a service to Portland via Ararat will be needed because of increased demand, petrol prices and less cars due to the global recession which has now hit all over the world.
To predict what will happen in the future is very difficult.
With patronage increasing 60% in the past 2 years do you dare predict a 120% increase in 4 years being the past 2 years and the future 2 years, may not happen but it is a distinct possibility.
Interesting times ahead for all Railway Operators I am sure.

If people can't afford to drive in the next few years then I expect there will be extra services on the existing road/rail from Portland to Melbourne but highly unlikely to be from Portland via Ararat to Melbourne. Most of us who live here are quite happy with things the way they are now, while a few of us railfans would like to see more trains, common sense tells us that it's not going to happen.

Come on Wilfy, there aren't that many pensioners.

This is interesting however - seems to hint at Vlocitys to Warrnambool (as there isn't really much better loco hauled rolling stock than what's already being run).

It hints intercity VLocities elsewhere too...
Maybe the sets that don't have a 3rd car will get a First class with buffet car instead.
Reliable, Economical, Safe, By Rail.

Now, what is common sense?
Not offending the canons of proprietary behaviour.
Y115 was being cynical and saying he could not forsee any passenger service. wilfy cited some very, very interesting figures with regard to increases in patronage. Who knows what the future holds; I quite agree with wilfy and alstrom. Anything is possible.

Before we get too carried away with opening new passenger services using Vlocities, don't you think we should open Bombardier a new factory to produce more of said railcars ?
Right now its looking more and more like the one thing this country's passenger railways need is a dirty great factory to pump out Vlocities, what ever Adelaide get made, and replacements for the overland, Hitachis and Comengs.
I still wonder if increasingly longer Vlocities sets is such a smart idea, I mean one locomotive + 8 cars is easier to maintain than 8 railcars each with its own engine, generator, fuel tank etc etc.

However some of the 8 cars worth of Vlocities fail you have a good chance of still running some kind of service with them. You also have less spare parts needed to be kept around, I believe the VLs are pretty modular so they just swap bits out rather than fix in situ.
