I got mine (DL41) yesterday at Hurstville. I'm impressed with it, however, the marker lights got the chop straight away, not only because I dont like that all 4 lenses light up with white or red instead of 2, but because mine will be weathered and become a trailling unit between a pair of NR's.
Other mods so far have included removing the crew, and fitting kadee #153's which need to have about 3mm removed from the trip pin to allow reliable operation with NR class fitted with same couplers. I had to do same to the couplers on the NR's also. The Australian flags were also placed on the lower cab sides, pinched from a Baker's NR decal sheet that I have here.
Future mods will be fitting the #3 and #4 air hoses, painting the flaps on the MU receptacles red and green, and the coupler lift bars white, and weathering.

Make sure you show us a action pic when your done. Very Happy

Cheers Adam

That looks very nice Kav442s5!

In real life, I think the DLs never got as grotty as the NRs, so weathering should be applied as light to medium?

HA!! Don't be so sure mate, I have a photo somewhere of DL46(PN) so dirty you cant see the numbers on her, absolultly filthy. The National Rail ones never got too bad althought there was a stage for about 4 months where nothing saw water...

I have recently weathered my DLs up and they have come up looking quiet nice.

Cheers, Michael Smile

Nice work NR109! Did you airbrush it with dye, or was it powder?

Took delivery of DL46 in PN Livery today. Very Happy

Very nice models. Extremely heavy like the CL, and its detailing is excellent. Opened up the body to fit a DCC decoder - installed a NCE D14SR decoder which took 2 minutes, then swapped both couplers around for Kadee Number 5s. All up: a 5 minute operation, and the train is running marvellously.

No one's mentioned the light switches underneath the loco. The one on the left is for headlights, and the one on the right is for ditch lights.

Now to find Bill's Billboards for a rear decal and this loco will be a treat to run on an intermodal. Smile

To answer your question there alltrainzfan my DL's were waethered with dye. Its seems your DL46 is fresh out of the paintshop comparing to my DL46 that has done a few trips across the Nullabor by the looks of it Wink

Your weathering is awesome NR109 - looks like it definitely has been through the Nullabor a few times. I think I'll leave mine pristine - I like the glossy look. But some NRs will probably go under the brush. Laughing

Nice stuff Bills Billboards! Might see my order in soon. Laughing
