Like most thing's Nosecone say's here, his guesstimate is exaggerated tenfold.
You could build one new for Nosecones prices.
For a non goer, I think if you started waving 50-100K bag of cash in front of Dorrigo or the RMS you would get a nibble.

Yes agree bugmenot, Nosecone has certainly got this head in the clouds.
Less than $50,000 would get you a complete one, although maybe not a runner.

If you want to restore it for operation, then I'm afraid you're going to have a hell of a lot of red tape to get past. The engine is probably going to cost you more than you paid for it in petrol, although it would make quite a talking point as a static display in your backyard.

How many people do you know with a tin hare in their back yard? That makes it a talking point.

I know people have things like a former Sydney Red Rattler, or NSWGR passenger car, or Melbourne's Hitachi set in a backyard.
But a CPH railmotor, and putting it back to service is not a cheap and simple operation. Haven't seen a CPH out in the open before, nor have I heard of one out there either.
As 4426_No_2_End said, if you love CPHs, get yourself a set at Casula Hobbies. Or the HO model with "the works" will be available soon from Eureka Models.
