We had several hiccups during the set-up, one layout arrived a lot smaller (about quarter of the size) than we had been informed, leaving us with a massive hole in the middle of the venue. With typical NMRI on the spot thinking, the whole layout was picked up and moved to one side of the allocated space. An instant layout was then created using 6 tables and a box full of Biro wooden track and battery powered locos. We hope that Jesse has not missed his toys yet. By setting this up in a wobbly oval and encompassing the colouring competition around the outside we have filled the hole and created a very popular spot for or visitors. In fact, it has been so popular that the "layout" has been invited to another exhibition, not bad for a few minutes thinking and work!
It was after 2:00 am before I hit the pillow on Saturday morning and up again at 7:00 blurry and flat for another day of running the event. Once the brain kicked in everything cleared and I was ready for the day.

It was a great day, while I have not seen the final figures what I did see would suggest that numbers through the door were about on par with previous years. We had a mad rush early in the morning which thinned around lunch time then built up again later.
The event guide says that there are no rides on the track out the front but this has changed and free rides are on for one and all.
The big screen had snippets of the Bathurst for those that could just not do without it.
We have received only accolades from traders, exhibitors and the public about the way we set-up and run our exhibitions, this makes it all worthwhile and will spur us on to keep improving our service.

I would like to add my accolades on another great exhibition Tony
Well worth the effort and for all that I heard from the SARMA folks running Florey Springs, they had a ball!

I thought Big Hill Mining and Liralau were quite good but didn't really have time to check everything out properly. One thing with being there late in the day: cafeteria is selling everything off cheap
oh and Bathurst on the screen was a good idea IMHO.
Cheers Nathan |
Liralau won the Exhibitior's Choice award. Ponders End, just about my person favourite (despite being pommy) won Public Choice, just ahead of Mt Ash.

Still tired from the weekend but it was all worth it. As far as I have heard everyone had a great time and it was very successful. I don't have any final figures yet but it looks like we had much the same numbers of public through the door as in previous years which shows that we have not lost our touch.
Photos will be added to our website shortly, once they are sorted and named though Aaron will probably beat me to it by posting in his gallery.
The event DVDs will be produced soon after and sent out to all exhibitors and traders. They will also be available for sale as are copies of the 2006 DVDs

It was on in dribs and drabs throughout the weekend but we did have to also thank all our sponsors
Adelaide Moulding and Casting Supplies
Auscision Models
Austrains
Downthe.NET Hosting
Evright Trophies
Model Mania
and of course make announcements so being a railway exhibition these took precedence.

Thanks for your comments.
While I was in charge, I have to tip my hat to all those that helped both before and during the weekend as without them, none of it would have been possible. They all did a great job.
Not Florey Springs, it was Golden Plains, even if it is just an update and change of name.
Lets have some more feedback from exhibitors, traders and the public on your experience of the weekend at the best, railway exhibition in SA. Be honest we want to know so that we can make it even better next time.

It was a fantastic weekend, and we all had a lot of fun.
I would have posted yesterday, but ended up off work with a Migrane (4 day weekend though...)
I have to thank Ash (Pigeon) and Pete (Victralian) for their efforts over the weekend, I know both had an absolute ball, even if there was a couple of head on collisions, when certain operators weren't watching what was happening. But we all had a great time, and I think both Pete and myself are sick of replacing couplers!
Highlights for us (besides winning the Peer choice award) included the operation of a 57 vehicle train on Saturday night, hauled by two Trainorama 930's, the adoption of Liralau's mascot "Bill" - won in the Saturday night Swindle (the meal was good too!), and finally getting nicks Spirit of Progress consist up and running!
We had prime position for watching the race, as we were directly in front of the screen!
My hat goes off to Tony and the organising crew, as this was probably the best run show I have been to! You guys put on a great weekend! Bravo!

Okay, so there are now about 150 photos (nearly a gig worth) at the link I posted above - that ought to keep you busy... They are relatively sorted, but none of them are titled or captioned yet. That will begin to happen from now.

If anyone has photos of the weekend that they want to share but nowhere to upload them to, PM me and I will set up a temporary album on our site. The only proviso is that we can copy and use them as we see fit, ie. but not limited to, on our website, in promotional material etc.
