Gday all,

Hows this for an idea? Post up any trains of interest you spot on Google Earth.

First i want to point out the hi-rail north of Broadmeadows Station, just south of the junction between Broadmeadows and Upfield lines. Hi-rail is on the standard gauge tracks by the looks of it.

Steve

Gents,

Google Earth images get updated periodically (every few months for high change areas like the Los Angeles urban fringe), though more normally every year or so for urban areas. Plus not everyone is from your suburub/state, so how about posting the pic and coords instead of just saying north of Hexham.

cheers,
Hendo

On the website version you can click on the 'link to this view' text and then paste it here. Wink

Are you refering to Google Earth or Google Maps (satellite photos)?
If you mean Google Maps, then there is a grain train going under Kalamunda Road in Perth with two locos on it.

Could work as long as the coordinates or page link are not embedded anywhere as they'd remain after the image had been updated.

It's not too hard to do. Just zoom-in, copy the image, paste it to your photo editing program and tell us where it is!

Here is the results of a quick scan of the NSW Nth Coast line from the QLD border to Grafton;

QLD side of the border tunnel;

Just north of Kyogle;

At Namoona;

At Casino. I suspect this was a special occasion, as there is 3 trains lined-up for a photo and the surruonding streets are packed with Gunzel cars. I remember seeing a photo taken from ground level. There is a 44, XPT and some other type of loco at the northern end (left);

An Interail service in the loop for PN at Rappville;

The PN train that has just crossed the Interail train at Rappville;

A south-bound train at Sth Grafton;

Methinks the middle loco is a C38, nonstreamlined in dark green. Therefore, C3830. I reckon this because I can see the belapaire, two domes, the silver cab roof, and the coal.
