Cop this lot.

Found these the other month in my collection. I filmed them in 1997 for a school project, and recently dumped them onto the 'puter, edited them and...I'm sure you can guess the rest. Many things have changed since these were filmed; WCR and the Ballarat Division of Steamrail are gone; the locos and rollingstock have gone to other operators, and some people have since passed on.

Cabride around Ballarat East with the late Gary McDonald driving a newly repainted T369. Gary was kind enough to come up for an interview and arranged this cabride pretty much on the spot for the school project. Some will find the items spread throughout the yard very interesting. Much of it has now gone elsewhere. EDI also occupy the maintenance buildings.

Ever wanted to see Y112, D3 639 and J515 triple head? Here it is! Filmed 21st of June 1997. ARHS-Vic no longer run such tours - a real pity in a way. The J and D3 ran from Spenna to Geelong; The J cut off and ran to No.2 platform, then the D3 headed light engine to South Geelong. The J then hauled the train to South Geelong with A66 banking at the rear; the Y and D3 were added to the front of the train, and the A took off back to Geelong Loco.

Y112 and D3 639 parallel running, and double heading...Not quite. The only parallel run I filmed was briefly as the Y pulled into Little River platform, as the D3 took off. The bulk of this film is of Y112 running to and from Ballarat - including some pacing from a car.

Enjoy.

Was great to watch... Sth West Steam Supreme.... '97... Ahhh, too bad I was only 11 then, the scene at Colac will never be repeated ever again the turntable & it's associated track are in direr need of repair, the loop at Winchelsea has recently been abolished & lifted...

In fact steam on the W'bool line any where beyond Marshall will never be repeated again, all but a distant memory now...

Sad how it's all now condemed to history, I don't hold much hope for seeing Y112 ever gracing the states rails once again ether... Crying or Very sad

Certainly brought back a few memories for me too.

I wouldn't consign steam to Warrnambool as a thing of the past just yet - where there's a will, there's a way.

If Y112 were ever to steam again, I'd like to see it go to Maldon or somewhere like that where it will see use and be appreciated for what it is (not that it isn't). It would certainly be the most suitable environment for it.

Thanks for sharing those with us. That was a pleasure to watch. I've not seen the Y in steam, I'd like to see it one day. I hope it happens again.

I'd certainly love to see it run again, but I don't think it'll happen anytime in the short term...

The Y requires repairs, such as replacement of the wheel centres. The Y's accreditation has lapsed also, which means it cannot operate at the current time.
