Does the ARHS Canberra divison have any overhead cover for it railway stock so it is protected from the hot and cold aussie weather?

On google my other half looked for me and says there aint any sheds or covering like the RTM has.

I can not understand how they can not have any cover for their large number of items they have.

Surely someone can see in their long term views, cover is going to be needed.

Now that they are doing the 6029 job wouldnt they be better long term to build a shed for it and 1210 loco?

Please dont take this the wrong way, but thanks for input Captain Obvious...

A more detailed answer would be something along the lines of money is tight, the lease on the site is tenuous and there is no point spending 150k on a shed, only to have to move it in a couple of years.

How have you supported the ARHS to achieve this end?... Bought a ticket, made a donation.....

This thread may be in the wrong forum....ACT or Railway Preservation fora may be more appropriate?

You could even make it a whole "shed thread" to throw mud at every preservation society that doesn't house exhibits and stored items under cover.

The ARHS does have a 2 road, 96 metre shed on site. This is primarily used for storage of our timber bodied carriages, locomotive 1210 and ongoing restoration projects such as CPH 27 and Pullman sleeper AL 1040.

As Monday has put it, naturally we would indeed love to have more shedding available to store all our steam locomotives etc under cover, however, theres this little question of reality.

Cheers

.

Is there any intention of 'reclaiming' the water gin left parked at Michelago ? Or is this a 'permanent' gift to the firefighters of that area ?

2001, It should be noted that there are actually about 4 or 5 water gins at Michelago. The one in the platform is earmarked for restoration for tour service, the rest we have no real use for and are there for the firies.
I believe a bogie wheelset carry wagon is also down there

Major surprise !

I know only of the one at the platform, so the others must be tucked away in the shed.

I believe it is due to the deteriorating condition of a few trestle bridges between Queanbeyan and Michelago that have lead to its closure, and no other reason. The track itself is satisfactory.

Is this correct ?

The other wagons are in the stock road, south end of the yard 2 roads over from the shed.

That was the initial problem, but as time has progressed so has deterioration.

In some cases, the only surface evidence that a (wooden) sleeper ever existed is a small row of weeds that have been using what's left of it as compost.

As for the other stuff at MGO, I forgot about that. I've yet to venture much further than the southern end of the platform, as I have an aversion to snakes.

So you don't want to hear about the time we removed a sleeper in the stock road and found a nest of baby browns then????? Laughing

No, not particularly. Shocked

In EJ's MTR e-mail earlier today he's already warning us to wear long sleeves and trousers, etc. I'd started wearing shorts of late, because I was getting too bloody hot in jeans. Oh well.
