First of all, i would like to congratulate SRV on their fantastic efforts this weekend. I was on the trip for Friday night/Sat morning then gunzeled it for saturday & sunday up until maryborough before getting on the train back to Melbourne. First time i've traveled behind an S class only & it was fantastic!. The passengers really enjoyed the trip. It was nice also to see the coal wagon!

Oobviously you have something against SRV doing this trip. We have told you multiple times, including myself that the charterer wanted the trip to run, so they were prepaired to pay for it to run. We ran as a gain & a profit on anything we made as we did not have to pay for crews. It was not over priced... This trip was actually a cheap over night one!.
the Bairnsdale/taralgon trip costed around the same price and you went less distance than you did up to Wycheproof. Not being rude mate, But i sugest you speak to the people who went on the train, they enjoyed it alot. So what if there were only 40-50 or so people on it? Not all tours that run with that ammount of people are bad.....
The train was a vital part in the celebrations, the concert and such was for entertainment purposes... the Train was the main attraction of the weekend.
- As i said in my last post to you, i'm not having a go at you but please, do not make comments or start saying negitave things about a tour because of one point of view.. Not all trips like this are Failures! it takes one person..... initally to get more passengers, and if that one passenger has a great time then they tell their friends. Also there were not 20 people on the train, there were approx 50.

You have got to be kidding, priced out? This is one of the cheapest weekend tours that has run in recent years. I doubt they could price it any lower. Around $400 is not overpriced for a weekender.

I agree with VRfan. How absolutely childish on behalf of per1 to be making such comments. I think per1 needs to pull his head in and remember that children should be seen and not heard !

Obviously you cant count then...
Running a train to this magnitude costs alot of money i hope you realise. I think the price was reasonably priced. The Volunteers at Wycheproof did an amazing job to get everything done in the short space of time to organise everything. Try cramming 12 months of work into 6 months!

Once again, get your facts right before you open your trap! The planned brekky stop wasnt actually cancelled, it was just transfered to Wycheproof itself. Due to the tight crew hours, Charlton was used as a quick refill of water and to load a couple of coal bags into the R Class. Once on arrival at Wycheproof, everyone was able to sit down to a great BBQ cooked breakfast. So basically Charlton was turned into a quick splash and dash!
I'd also like to know how you can fit 400 people into 90 sleeping beds on the train?

Not true, Charterer paid for the crews.
Now to the trip itself.
What an awesome weekend! Things could not have gone more smoothly from an operations point of view. 95% of the trip was either on time or early. The train arrived back at Southern Cross last night 1 min late!
Only real drama of the trip was friday night at KP69 when S301 decided to chuck a ground relay. We were 30mins up on the timetable so the train never delayed anything. Once 301 got that hissy fit out of the way (probably because she had been sitting around for so long) she never missed a beat for rest of the weekend, same goes to R761. 761 performed like a true champion. T356 was dead most of the way friday, she was started at KP69 to get out of the section, and shutdown again at Ballarat.
The shuttle trips to Glenloth and return were chockers each trip. It was standing room only at either end of the carriages. The kids really enjoyed themselves. Souvenirs ran out of the toy train whistles!
I'd like to thank all the Steamrail Volunteers who went along for the weekend. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Everyone put in 110% (even with the limited amount of sleep) for the weekend. Also to all the volunteers who helped prep the train in the weeks leading up to the trip. Once again, without these people putting in so many hours (of the OWN time) none of this would be possible. To the Wycheproof who put so much effort into their weekend, well done. Everyone enjoyed themselves with plenty to see and do in the township. The concert saturday night was sensational im told. Its a big ask to cram 12 months work into 6 months and the Wycheproof people took the challenge on and suceeded.
I have a few photos for the weekend, not many as i was a tad busy. I'll post them up as soon as i get a chance.
I say again, thanks to everyone who played a part in the weekend, all the train crews, signallers, volunteers (SRV and Wycheproof) and the passengers who enjoyed themselves so much. It was truly a nice relaxing trip to Wycheproof and return. If the Wycheproof people decide to put another one of these events on in the future, do yourselfs all a favour and book a sleeping bed!
Big pat on the back to everyone involved!

Yeah, exactly. Thats what i meant  , to be more precise though, i ment it on the lines of, the sales on train & anything that was not paid by or going to & from the charterer was a profit. Ie: kiosk, souveniers etc..

It was an awesome weekend as most people have said. I enjoyed chasing the train. Great job to SRV and Wycheproof. I hope there is another Wycheproof tour in the near future again, once again. Awesome job.

great weekend
I live 40 minutes away and so I saw the steam come in and I went on the 10:30 shuttle, there could have been another shuttle or even had one shuttle go to Dumosa.
Also there could have been a bit more information at the actual Wycheproof Station but the Court House had plenty of information and the Sunday markets was good
I took the train back on Sunday with my father and had a great time, the sleeping cars were full but the sitting cars had at the most 10 people with 2 cars being empty. the staff on the train were friendly and informative and I will definitely do another trip again. we got back into melbourne on time and I jumped straight on the Bendigo train on platform 4.
Hopefully in 10 years time we can have a 125 year celebration of Trains reaching Sea Lake (in same Shire so should work).
One question why did we leave at 1pm and have to wait at Maryborough for 2 hours, there appear to be no train between Wycheproof and Maryborough that I saw, why could we have left at 2pm instead, was it incase we broke down which would have affected the Ballarat to Melbourne end
overall an enjoyable trip and i think i got my father more interested in travelling long distances by train because before the trip he was worried about spending 9 hours on a train but now he is not as concerned

And just before you left, they sent X41 light engine to Ballarat in front of you, which made the Steamrail train late, having to stop at every loop to Ballarat to get a new train order. Very odd.

it sounds SRV did a great job on the trip. congrats. but I must say. Im glad it ran. thanks Wycheproof for chartering the train, the crew on the trip did a great job.
Per1 if you don't like prices and you think 20 people is a disgrace don't talk about it we only want to hear good things that happened on the trip on negative, do not talk about that again.
P.S was the CHEAPEST WEEKENDER PRICES I HAVE EVER SEEN.

They were expecting several hundred people on the train. There is plenty of accomodation in Wyche. Overflow would go to the caravan park. Do your sums. Several hundred people spending money in Wyche, is far better than 20. You people cannot take constructive criticism.
If the tickets were a hundred dollars, the train would have been overflowing with ex-locals. Who ever did the pricing stuffed up. Not a good way to advertise your good but badly researched work. An empty train.
