A fellow enthusiast emailed me a document and in this a pdf file showing the NSW Govt Sept report release on Eveleigh's outcome.

It showed only 61 submissions for heritage concerns!!!!!!

Holy smoke... ... only 61..

I thought more than 61 people cared about North Eveleigh and surrounding rail heritage in NSW.

Hang on 6.1m people and 61 cared? Forget it throw it away.... too easy the place is a walk over. No ones needs a museum in Sydney do they. let them all go to Thrillmere instead.

Seems NO ONE in the major NSW train community gives a rats behind about what will happen now.

Over 71 cared about carparking and bicyles instead.... wow that a real worry.

Get prepared for some serious destruction in Inner Redfern soon - this report say all the Carriage paintshop area will be rebuilt on and too bad you cant do anything now.

Only option left is to start writing to federal political members and threaten the industries involved with these developers with bad publicity for destroying 1870s heritage and some Green Building Bans, like the one that my mates were involved in the 1970s to save the Rocks located in Sydney Harbour foreshores.

Green ban would save Eveleigh from destruction - only way to make government listen sadly.

The report ends with these CHILLING words -

"the site is suitable for the proposed development"

So are we all going sit back like idiots and still let the ALP do this to our sacred site?

We all need to get together and act as 1 community group and make our voices heard.

Is this individual people or organisations?
If it's 61 people, you're boned.
If it's 61 organisations, then that is actually a fair effort.

It states in document under various parts .... people submitted xx submissions .. for Heritage purposes only 61 raising concerns.
Doesnt anywhere say groups or etc ...only people numbers in total.

So you think 61 people is a "fair" effort?
So how come most train rides can get 300-600 on heritages runs, Steam fest can gather thousands and overall total rail enthusiasts in NSW is higher yet of these only 61 care..
This is and you should agree a very POOR outcome immediately comes to my mind.

The issue that ONLY 61 people raised objectives is a big concern .. and i know as i was one to submitt a opposition to the redevelopment of the railway area.
So that left 60 others in Australia... out of 6.1m in NSW alone

Wording is USED to care.. its all going away very soon now ... the PUBLIC had their chance to submit their feelings and not enough did any positive spin for museum or railway running so it really is everyone else fault the area will be apartments. 12 Storey building housing 4-5000 people.
Only outcome is a 3 carriages and some small railway visual display of the Carriage Works...WOW really lasting heritage that is!

VERY poor showing if so many rail enthusiasts "care" about the Eveleigh history are area.

Who cares Anyway!!!!!.....you now have ONLY Thirlemere left - this being only a 3hr journey outside Sydney. The chance for local inner Sydney museum is now long gone.

I highly doubt anyone will do much more for the east sie of Eveleigh ie the LES ..

Shame NSW Shame!

Well only way left is to people demonstrate and chain themselves to the Paint Shop building sections to gather media attenton and get arrested by Police..

Sadly THAT is only thing that will bring much needed attention - like similar scenes to save trees and native forests.

If i was younger i would be willing to be chained up but no. Im sure others might be.

It is amazing what some "bad publiclity" can do to a government's standing on a issue when people protest to make their VOICES heard.

Problem i feel and see clearly, is that not enough voices are heard in the general public domain on saving Eveleigh until too late...

Is there an other Sydney in NSW we dont know about??,i live at Berowra(hornsby way) and it takes us apx 1+ abit hrs to get to the RTM,2+ hrs to get up to the Oberon guys,or is that 3 hrs by pushcart yes there should be some listing put on the yards but if you look at it realisticly it is much better to have a museum of this type located in a more pratical area, the only down side to the RTM is the twat from the roads design office who forgot to include some sort of underpass under the southern freeway, would of made a great loop trip ...RTM>>>>slug up hilltop>>>>Mittagong<<<<cambeltown<<<<picton<<<RTM..Mayby someone should start a partition up to have the f/way dug up and an underpass installed(can't everseeing that happening) There is more money to be made in real estate than to quote have "dirty smelly noisy locomotives" based in the inner city> If the gov cared anything adout tourist railways they should have never sold off the Dorrigo line ,What a money spinner so close to coffs hbr tourist resorts,i could go on & on & on

That's Mr Twat to you and I'm not aware that he "forgot" anything.

Moaner must work for the truckies union.. or not care about rail heritage in the CITY.

He sure seems to be more interested in a freeway road 2hr out from Sydney having more importance, than a frigging 140year old railway area been kissed goodbye..

Great choice of selective ethics there old chap ....really great ethics.

Chaining people to trees and lying down in front of bulldozers does not guarantee media coverage. (But by saying this I am not saying don't do it) There have been many protests in recent years trying to draw attention to forest destruction in NSW, however the media no longer covers events like this. they are very selective, cover events dictated by "management policy". If management of newspapers and TV stations decide for whatever reasons, (often their own business interests) not to cover protests and demonstrations, they dont. The media bosses even filter out letters to editor and radio talk back to exclude subjects they dont want aired. (ever wondered why so little about the whole Eveleigh thing has been in the media when so many people are so angry about it?) It would be interesting to be able to find out how much media money is involved in the real estate deals at Eveleigh. it will be interesting to see how much, if any coverage of the protest planned for Sunday gets in the papers and TV, and what "spin" is put on the events.

O.K. Prove me wrong. Phone up the talk back radio shows, particularly the morning prime time big rating ones like Alan Jones and see if they even let you on and for how long.
