I just started a new thread in the Operators forum about this new “operator” East West Line Parks – Project Iron Boomerang.

See here for info: http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p1129711.htm#1129711

I decided to split the discussion with above rail assets discussed here and any other discussion about the project in the Operators forum thread.

I’ve linked a picture below from the company’s website below that shows you their vision for the railway which should wet the whistle for us to have some friendly discussion on this operator.

After reading through their website, EWLP vision is a requirement for 80 high horsepower locomotives and 6000 wagons. Judging by their image above one would say it looks very similar to an SD70Ace. The wagons appear to be standard US aluminum gondola type wagons.

One would assume that there would be savings buying locos “off-the-shelf” from the States, maybe attaching an order to one of the big Class I operators in the US. Likewise rollingstock.

The second interesting thing would be the construction phase of the project. Will EWLP be purchasing used 2nd generation locos and wagons from the States, similar to BHP Billiton with their SD40-2.

Locos like SD40’s and GP38’s are relatively cheap and more importantly available from the States when compared with anything suitable domestically.

This project will be interesting indeed and I look forward to friendly discussion on the subject.

Cheers,

I hope they are backed by somone of great substance [Warren Buffet] or in the current economic climate they will have big problems getting anyone to listen to them let alone lend them money.

The project is a non starter. Even if it was it will be many years (not 2014) before it comes to fruition. See comments in other thread

Is that a Walther's blast furnace? Very Happy

Mate, if that loco pulls as hard as you do, it'd move anything.
I'd still rather have an ALCo.

It is possible the 'artist impressions' are just reskinned train simulator models! Laughing
