You appear to be taking an unhealthy, if subtle, interest in South Australian matters of late my dear Waddles. 8)

As for the particular link you have provided I think the less said by me the better.

Thank you at least you have partially agreed with me. He had a stranglehold on nearly all road transport in the Sth East of SA, he even bought out his rival company, just so that he had the monoply down there! K&S transport was his rival,it is now part of Scott's!

What is wrong in stating the plain truth, I hardly think any of his rellies are going to be browsing the internet for a while anyway. I know a rellie of his anyway, and he would probably say the same thing, he thought Allan Scott had got to big for his boots and actually told me so!

I do offer my condolences to those that he left behind though! They will have a big job to do soon and it will not be an easy one !

Allan Scott was a South Australian champion and a business legend.

He must have employed thousands of people directly and god knows how many more indirectly, very few indeed could ever claim to have achieved such importance.

Well said Aaron. No doubt that change for the South East Rail system will be easier to accomplish now, but you have to respect the guy for what he achieved in his lifetime and for the benefits that he did bring to his community, as you have suggested.

Yes, it is distasteful but everyone has the right to an opinion, as you have to argue their opinion.  Sometimes it can get brutal on the boards, but censorship is  a path that needs to be carefully mapped. One can never please all parties.

It's up to David to decide how he wants to proceed with that post. I'd prefer he delete it. It's his choice.

I don't generally have a go at the mods, generally because I cannot be bothered and I genuinely think there is little reason to. In this case I think I need to make an exception, and 2001 this is by no means specifically aimed at you, I understand and agree with the censorship thing.

However

Why is it so that we cannot comment on accidents occasioning death in rail related accidents? We are told that it has something to do with friends and or families et al being able to read it and it generating grief, bother, distress, etc, etc. I am cool with all that.

Then I go and google some terms related to the subject of this thread, specifically the name and event (adding them here will only exacerbate the issue) and guess what the number 2 result was? This very thread, worse still, the direct link went to the post mentioned above.

This could be the second thing read by ANYONE, friend, family, etc how much grief, bother, distress, etc, etc might be generated by that?

Leave the post as it is (opinions and entitlement etc), and certainly don't lock this or any other similar thread, they all serve a useful purpose, but don't go locking the rail related ones and telling us the same reason, it's all censorship and I am not cool with that!

The rules have just been changed regarding commenting on rail fatalities. Here are the new rules/guidelines :

http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11344716.htm

This gives users more latitude than the previous restraints.

I will choose not to remove it, because then it will make the thread a bit incomprehensible, I have never had any respect for the man at all in his business dealings, he built an empire, but at whose cost, yes I will admit that and it was probably hard work to boot, that I would give him a standing ovation for, however his attitude to transport in the South East leaves a sour taste on many peoples tongues including mine!

He has trodden on a lot of feet to get to where he was, and as an anti- rail advocate, I disliked him even more. I have nothing against him personally just his attitude that the South East was his. It is my opinion and I stand by it, you can either like it or lump it, but it is my opinion, I am not asking anyone to agree with it. You can make your own decision about things like that!

If the mods want to remove my post's then so be it, but what ever happened to free speech, I only called him the South East Strangler because he had a stranglehold on road transport in the South East, I could have used stronger terms. Now that he has gone perhaps his companies may lose this stranglehold and a bit of competition down there can only be good for the locals.

I admit my my post could be seen as a bit tasteless, however worse things have been said about people in the media and no one bats an eyelid! The way you all carried on, you think I accused him of being a pedophile or something!

No I will be a man and cop it, changing it would probably make it worse. I see one cannot have their OWN opinion on a subject, lest it upset the masses! You are right though I should have used a bit more tact though! Thanks! 8)

Aaron,

I reported this post to Moderators approx 24 hours ago but , they have not done anything about it.

It seems it is Railpage Policy that it is acceptable and decent to speak ill of the dead before they're even cold.

I agree that Moderators seem to sometimes act with undue haste particularly when a comment ( and a truthful one too ) may be critical of their actions.

In this case , non-action merely suggests a lack of morals and ethics.

Allan Scott was a very ruthless business man. At one stage he lowered he rates to the point that he was loosing money just to put the owner drivers out of the game. When they all folded, he paid out their finance and employed them for less than minimum wage. Then he upped the rates back to where they were, still paying the former owner drivers less than minimum wage. He got away with it because he said it was their repayments to him was the reason for the low pay.
