“The new bike cage is a fantastic addition to Eltham Station and part of a $1 million investment to install up to 20 new bike cages across Melbourne’s train network and at key regional hubs,” Ms Kosky said.

Ms Kosky said the new bike cages will be managed and supported by Bicycle Victoria and will be known as ‘Parkiteer’ cages.

The funding made up of $500,000 for the cages and $500,000 for some strategy boutique to come up with the lame name?

Yes there is a demand, and if I remember Kosky promised more lockers not long after she began her time as Transport Minister.

I've been on the waiting list at Watergardens for over eighteen months. I was twenty-third on the list when I applied, I'm now at thirteenth spot. Could be a three year wait it seems. Which is ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous? Do you feel you have an entitlement to a bike locker? Just chain your bike up, and take the risk.

In any case it looks like a bike cage is being built where the lockers are, on the North side of the station.

Geelong and South Geelong stations are receiving the cages as well. The country ones are a dark grey, while the suburban ones (eg Broadmeadows) are a medium blue as with present bike lockers. Both are of the same design however.

The bicycle cage is under construction at Frankston station, near the bus interchange. Kind of looks like it was made using those blue tram doors.

Hallam station's cage thing is also in the middle of construction, but strangely placed as it is on the City to Pakenham side not the Pakenham to City side where most people would actually need it and also it would be more convenient, but i guess there wasn't enough space and at the moment there are only like 3 bike racks on the city side. Not sure if people even use it though.
And the door of the cage is facing away from the station, which i thought was odd.
At least they are busy at completing that carpark they promised 3 years ago!

Watergarden's cage looks to be complete, but as yet unused. Wrong side of the station for me though! Crying or Very sad

The cage at Bayswater is complete and looks operational but was empty when I saw it. And it's in the perfect position right next to the entry directly on the bike track which goes alongside the belgrave line. Only downside is there is a step up to the cage from the ground.

All these bike sheds being empty, maybe they are not for bikes, perhaps they are holding cells for fare evaders and vandals? Laughing .

I did suggest to a couple of fellow RP'ers that the cage at Broadmeadows was due to the increased Population up this way....

The bike cage at South Geelong. If the other side had vertical racks, you could probably fit another row of vertical racks down the middle. I presume the two types of racks are so pretentious people can get their preferred type.

I heard that there will be a bike cage made at Cranbourne along with the new Northern carpark, which is under construction. 10 bike lockers are also located near the enterance to the station.

Have you seen the lockers at Box Hill.
There's eight vertical ones and they're all on platform four which is only open during peak hours.
And the gunk on the padlocks suggest they haven't been used for years.
