Not only that they were working locos and in not one but 3 roundhouses to boot.

Don't get me started.....

No, THE greatest act.

While it will be sad to see Jack go. If he is going to be returned to working order then that will be great.

Well, JACK needs a major amount of work, even for a cosmetic restoration. He would need to go into storage in some way, for no other reason than to make way for the Thirlmere redevelopment.

1021 will become the new Museum 'mascot' and that will be good to see restored again. It's also a 'kid'-sized loco and in the blue 'Cardiff' livery, is jaw-droppingly cute.

At LMLR, he will ride on a ready-to-go garden trainset, built with the finest 19th century 60lb rail available!

I actually would like to see you pen your personal views, even if by PM, regarding the loss of the Enfield site and why we should hold faith within the then occupying organisation, that now is being entrusted with basically everything rail in NSW.

I agree with your sediments regarding it being an act of vandalism, and hope with your experience, that somehow, L.E.S can be saved from the same fate, even if it is too late for the organisation that occupied it.

It will be great to see Jack restored, yet a pity that it couldn't be done in house, yet at least history is being shared around again Smile

If I discuss my "sediments" with anyone, it will be with my doctor .... or maybe, the old MWS&DB.

Where are the skips? On display at BJ?

There is a 3' gauge skip on display at the Burrinjuck State Recreation Area. It has been there from at least the late 70's when I started visiting.

After the bushfires that swept through this area a couple of years ago Lake de Burgh is very accessable.

Goondah (earth 'tank' to supply the loco depot);

I think this is the dam in question.

There is also the remains of a concrete tank or support at Goondah.

This is one of the former Wyangala Dam construction locos which arrived at BJ in 1940. It's meant to be on display there. Anyone know?

It is hoped that this loco will be placed on display for the Centenary of Burrinjuck which will occur in October next year. It is presently stored in the State Water works compound.

Archie (Jack as it is called at Burrinjuck resides in its own enclosure)

Hope this helps.

Interesting. It must be one dating from the 1940s works and likely ex-Wyangala like the petrol loco. It certainly is not an original Burrinjuck (Dam construction) skip. Wrong gauge.

Interesting, thanks for the tip.

Yes, that's it. The drawings refer to it as a 'tank'. I guess they referred to a 'dam' as being what they were building in the Gorge; concrete and 200 feet high.

A buckle plate tank also shows up on the Goondah plans, and this is the right size for the job as a base, but it looks large enough to do the job on its own. Maybe it replaced the buckle plate tank or the latter ended up being built in concrete instead. Looks like it's right beside the road which would make it an ID certainty for being the loco depot header supply.

I hope they get cracking on a resto soon.

Yes, still carrying JACK nameplates but the owners now know that it is the real ARCHIE. BTW, the builder's plates are not the originals that State Water think they are; they're actually 1970s replicas. However, the builder's plates do carry the correct build-year of 1907 and the correct builder's number of 5945.

A earth dam which is built mainly above is refferred to as tank. they are more common out west than around the coastal/tablelands area.

Archie when first at the RTM

Then ( Something i only found out today ) It liveried in black ( which looks awsome )

Well, they certainly are very interesting images, Chovies.

The recent interest in the loco has flushed out a lot of preservation-era images of the loco at both Enfield and Thirlmere. I find the shot of the loco in black with white lining very interesting. Never seen one of it in this livery before; the closest has been the unlined black it wore for some years after its first Thirlmere repaint.

So, you like the black livery? Well, the Restoration Project Plan specifies that the loco will be returned to its 1969 Royal Easter Show livery of black with red and straw lining. That's the livery shown in the first of your images, only not the faded black as shown of course.

Do you know which issue of The Roundhouse that was?
