In regards to Bikes on V/Line.

Is it really necessary to remove pedals and handle bars and whats with the cardboard box?

It does make it a little difficult to ride off down the Rail Trails carrying a Cardboard box on your back LaughingLaughing
"luznug"

ummmmmmmmmm.....  Question

where are you getting the pedal/handle bar/cardboard box thing from?

If your travelling with a bike, especially on a loco hauled service, you can just put it in the guards van. In its entirety.

This was the problem with SZ7 in its current state, that there was no guards van to speak of...

I noted SZ7 in the yard at Geelong last night, it was at Dudley Street this morning, and is now back at Geelong, so I assume it is back in service. BS215 is second car in the consist, beside the BCZ which does not appear to have any modifications made to the conductor end doors.

Anyone know why VN12 is currently running around as FN12? It appears to have lost a BTN268 along the way....
"miss_x"

Aircon failed in BTN268 when I was riding VN12 on the 1225 up Bairnsdale back on Monday. Guess its being removed to fix the said problem.

Just like this. I think they might have printed out the stickers when they planned to convert it into a BZN, and then just forgot about it.

They have also fitted a lock to the conductors end saloon door, and replaced the glass with a pieces of plywood covered in half a coat of paint. They didn't do anything to the external doors however;

They just pulled out the walls, relaid some lino, and put in a metal bar so the bikes don't go up against the end communication door.

They didn't remove the old toilet signage;

VN12 has been reunited with its better half BTN268 again. The air con seemed to be working fine today, though door faults in the BZN and blocked toilets are now plaguing it...
"miss_x"

On a down Geelong train this evening the BTN was locked off, dunno why. The BZN still had door faults, it delayed departure from SSS by 5 minutes.

The external livery has also been altered, I am not sure when it happened. When VN12 was first released it had white window frames and plain grey sides:

VN14 was next the be released from refurbishment, it scored a random placement of white stripes at window level, but still had white window frames:

All carsets after then had grey window frames with white stripes at window level.

Now VN12 still has white window frames but with the white bands added:

Further to this, VN12 was supposed to run 8403/8424 (0745 to Bairnsdale, and 1225 to Southern Cross) today. However it was pulled out of service due to nagging door faults and a pulled jumper cable ex Geelong. N4 and N16 were coupled together and used on 8403/8424 instead.

Looked funny, one refurbed set and one not  Smile

There are two refurbished 3 car SH sets running around, they are both coupled up to a non-refurbished SH set. Why they didn't match up the refurb and non-refurb I do not know. Laughing

One should note that the railway is run to suit the Operator and that customers are something that have to be put up with . Likewise getting all the smeg sets marshalled together does not suit the Operator and is all too hard . So with everchanging liveries VLP will always have the awful Greek Wedding effect of something old, something new, something blue, plus Maccas on wheels . What a Corporate branding shambles .

Sorry but Greek weddings have nothing to do with what you're talking about.  In fact I think you'll find the piece you have partly quoted goes back to the British in the 1800s.

But yes, VLP will forever be plagued by these mismatches due to high demand, limited rolling stock, and further limited budgets.

VL31 is now a 3 car unit, I assume it was transferred from Bombardier this morning.

I finally got a shot of SZ7 lineside today:

The carriage set is still a hunk of crap, for the third time running the BCZ sounds like it hits the platform at Newport. I am not sure why BS218 with the bike area is 3rd carriage in the set, when I have been on it people still put their bikes into the wheelchair area of the BCZ.

The some passengers really crack the smeg about the lack of first class, on Monday morning one guy threw a tantrum so big the entire BCZ was looking at him. Shocked Anyone want to take bets until the set is black banned by the union?

I have also noticed that there were two 3 car N sets spare in the yard this evening. Were these to be used later on in the evening, or just ready to replace another consist? If it is the latter, why not keep the old crap as spare and use something a bit nicer in service wherever possible?

It was a hunk of crap with the ACN. That said, what's the deal with whinging about a lack of first class? No-one has a sook about VLocities/Sprinters/H sets not having it. SZ7 will remain on the Geelong line doing peak commuter services anyway, it's not as though it'll be doing long intercity services. That's what N sets are intended for.

I wonder when Bombardier will start building VL42-VL50? Will this be after they've done all the centre cars? Hopefully a couple of those can replace SZ7 Smile

I don't see why the BCZ can't be simply made an ACZ again. Just point the seats in the direction of travel and stick a first class sign on the side!

As for the carriage set as a whole, it looks terrible. I often see it in the mornings at North Melbourne. If it was given a fresh coat of paint I reckon that would go a long way towards improving the image of it.

110% agree there James its a mess on its own when they were out getting power assisted doors surely they should have gone in for repainting in the BS carriages as for BCZ257 too. the BCZ still retains the first class stickers near the conductors compartment its wierd first the BZN stickers in the carriage near the doors its a joke on its own with SZ7.
surely change BCZ257 back into ACZ257 like it did in the West Coast Rail days i find this real amusing seeing different stickers inside and outside of BCZ257 Rolling Eyes once IF SZ7 goes into retirement in the near future surely can they get rid of the silly power assisted doors so they can be perserved for hertiage operators who want them

Why Commuters crack the smeg big time is because of the lack of notice from VLP re removal of First Class accommodation . And such travellers are entitled to be angry they have bought Date To Date 1st Class tickets on the understanding and expectation that 1st will be provided on those two daily trips . All of a sudden VLP says hey Noddy no 1st Class  from next week !! rather rude.

If VLP were more professional they would give 10 weeks notice, and / or refund the fare differential on the Date to Date tickets  involved .  But no they start a smeg fight they cannot win .  Again a sure sign the show is being run by the Operators; and as for the Manageress Stakeholder Relations - who does she represent ? the Passengers or the Operators ? Me thinks she is either asleep at the wheel or representing the Operators .
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

In the original replacement of carriage ACN21 with BCZ257 the first class seats ex ACN21 should have been removed and placed in BCZ257.

Once the SG cars are all removed from BG V/Line will have 2 x Z sets captive on Geelong Commuter services., being 59+57.
Originally both cars 257 & 259 where to be converted to BZN configuration, as the project was halted with the final conversion of BCZ262 to BZN.

Of interest is the fact that cars BS218/219 are older than some cars in operation on "Heritage" trains.

Also carriage BS215 was never refurbished internally as per the other BS cars where with separate toilets & washrooms and retains these up to today, as it does the former 1950's cast metal windows which where also superseded in the 1980s refurbishment program with fully sealed types.

The internal paint in the washroom & toilets & flooring material dates from the 1960s, no S type carriages in preservation have these materials to date.

Car BS 215 will eventually become an ideal candidate for preservation with all that being required is the removal of the carpet & seat fabric and replacement with the former leather-vinyl seat upholstery & carpet matting.  The car also retains the reading lights above each seats, such passenger amenities where deemed not warranted by V/Line as was the floor heating which was removed., I guess managment are to used to there climate controlled  company cars....

Also a feature of 215 is the vinyl window blinds, also replaced by more trendy but less effective curtains in the remainder of the fleet.

So I am to understand that SZ7 will be split and put into 2x BCZ-BS-BS(-BS) formation creating a Z and an FZ set which will both run on the Geelong line?

I believe the plan also includes orphaned ex-Z car stock from gauge converted N sets, to make sets along the lines of BCZ-BS-BS-BZN-BTN or similar.

You'd have to imagine they'd both include BZN carriages for DDA compliance (assuming the BCZs aren't up to the job).

does anyone know what went wrong with the Car that is stabled in Warrnambool yard? Or when its planned to return to melbourne if it hasnt already gone yet
  kuldalai Chief Commissioner

As previously posted the medium term intention is to :

1. Create 11 x 5 car Inter City N sets made up strictly from the 1980's built N cars .  (Three on standard and 8 on broad gauge.)

2. The S and Z cars to be made up into 4 x 6 car commuter sets for peak hour use only on the Geelong line.

It was attached to the front of an FN Set on the 1705 Up Warrnambool Saturday night, then there was an overhead disarrangement at Sth Kensington so the train had to terminate Geelong and return as the 1840 Dn Warrnambool orginating again at Geelong. As the car had no tail lights so it could not trail again out of Geelong, the car had to be detached there so it is now sitting loose at Geelong - probably will come up attached to the set it belongs to (N 6) on the 0656 Up Geelong Monday now.
