Hi all,
After Vicrailstations.com, I started to get an interest of stations, railways, closed lines in Victoria.
After getting permission off the owner of Vicrailstations to start and updated version of his site, I have been taking a photos here and there.
First, Before I start an actual site- Ive started a Picasa Web Album.
I'd like to display a few photos of the Daylesford line, starting with Trentham station, which I took a month or so ago.

hotdogpants1 - do you have a link to your galleries? it would be quicker to post your favourite few photos of each update here along with the link, rather than entering captions over on your site, and then having to copy and paste each one into here as well. Idea

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean.
I have the link to the small gallery here: http://picasaweb.google.com/forthevline
Or, Daylesford: http://picasaweb.google.com/forthevline/Daylesford#
What I do is add captions for a few of the photos I'd like to display, then provide a link to the rest (which I forgot to do with Daylesford, fixed now).

If you are doing it with stations, it would be better to print thumbnails so we could see all you had on that staion then click on which ones we want to view, rather than scroll for miles. ( like vicrailstations site)

Ah, good idea, I don't think 50 photos would go well with scrolling down- it's a better set up with the Picasa albums.
Also, I went to Healesville today and took a hell of a lot of photos, so don't expect them to be up in the next couple of days!

I reckon Ross has done a great job with the http://www.vicrailstations.com site, but it needs an easy way to find an individual station. An alphabetical list would be nice, but a search function would probably be easier to implement.

Rick,

You can use google to search inside specific sites. When searching (for example, to find Healesville), type:

site:http://www.vicrailstations.com healesville

I wonder if Rolfe wants to share the database structure that he uses?

Not knowing what he does for a living, I would assume it's some sort of (possibly open source) package.

Yeah, I know. Problem is if the site is moved to a new server Google will toss up an error.

It's actually more fun to try and pick the right line if you're not sure of the stations relationship to the original line, but if you were creating a site from scratch a better way of locating the station would be very handy. It wouldn't be easy to retrofit something, I guess.

Hi all,

I think drwaddles has the right idea.
We need a Rolfe Bozier Website for each state.
I have started an Australian Railway stations website with photos from all the stations that I have visited, but is very basic.
be great if I could design my own website and do HTML as well.
If you are interested in looking at my collection so far there is a thread in the General section of the Railpage forum.

another option for a webpage is to make a wiki then you can invite lots of other people to help edit it. and you don't need special software once its up and running to edit and add things.

I can set one up if you have a domain name.

on a topic completely different to anything Rails related this is a sample wiki i did a few years ago Hertfordshire Bells it shows you the type of things that are possible.
