Greetings guys , first time post so i hope this is in the right place , if not i am sure the mods will move it to the correct place -- anyway here goes ..
Been a bit of a train buff for most of my life - more the diesel freight ... first experience was when i was about 12 in a 48 class then 81 on the return ( before all the OHS stuff made it impossible for friends / guests to ride up front with drivers/firemen)
ANYWAY..... I am living on acreage near Bega (NSW) and would like to buy a Train carriage to maybe turn into a guest house. maybe an old red rattler or anything similar
does anyone know of people selling carriages pref in fairly good condition - and do you possibly have a price guide as to what would be expected to pay ? would be great if there is someone local to me ( i am sure there is not ) so i am aware that i may have to have it freighted to me
Look forward to your replies !
Boc

You should've called by a little while back - there was a discussion about an old carriage someone had put up for sale on Ebay ![]()

Did you have a link to that discussion ?

Have a look at
Australian train movers.
Even if you don't buy one of the cars he has for sale on this site, you will probably need him to move your carriage.

Yep he is a great bloke and really knows his stuff, there might also be some carriages for sale that are not on his website for one reason or another

Someone who had just bought an old carriage. October 2009 :

Railcar for sale on Ebay. May 2007 :

The cheap bit is to buy the carriage. The real expense comes in moving it. Cranes at pick up point and your place and the truck to transport it. This could be several thousand dollars!
Good luck.

If they retire the last couple of carriages, I would buy a full six carriage Hitachi and convert it into a little holiday home sort of thing out in the country somewhere maybe on a large acre field.
Did you know you can now record your sightings in our new Sightings module?
