A week or so ago, I noticed that the flags hanging from the roof over the main concourse had been replaced with shiny new flags, including a RailCorp propaganda flag.

Flags not being my specialty, could someone name the flags for me?

I haven't seen the flags but they wouldn't be for the World Cup would they?

No. These are possibly State or Railway or Sydney of City flags. They have been on display for as long as I can remember, hanging from the roof, opposite the platforms.

This photo is off wikipedia, but you can see a few of the flags I mean, top left and another adjacent to the hanging clock... Not really a good pic of the flags themselves, though.

The flag on the left looks like the Australian Federation Flag and the one on the right is the Flag of New South Wales

Nor would they think of possibly removing them.

I was there on Saturday morning. Didn't notice anything unusual.

They've been replaced, old for new. You can still see the fold marks in the new ones.

Well, those two flags have been there as long as I can remember, they were there in 2001. And I doubt CityRail would have good reason to move them to make way for their advertising banners.

Oh, wait, it's CityRail. Rolling Eyes

I'll get some photos next time I'm down there.

Ummmm where did anyone say this? All the OP said was the flags have been replaced with new flags (due to wear and tear), and one of the new flags includes the RailCorp flag....

Correct me if I am wrong of course...

We don't know whether the OP is talking about the flags in particular, or the hanging banners.

Because if he's referring to the banners, then they get replaced every few months to CityRail's taste.

But I'd see no reason for CityRail to replace the NSW and Federation flags, unless they were dirty/worn out.

Either way, I'll check Thursday, next time I'm back in the city.

These are the two flags I was interested in.

I have now learned what they are. They hang with the Australian Commonwealth Flag and the NSW Flag from Central's roof.

This one is The Australian Federation Flag.

This one is the flag of Greater Sydney.

Thanks to dkaarma for his help.

Lets see...title says FLAGS so therefore Stephen is asking about the FLAGS is that plain enough for you...if it was a question about BANNERS im sure the thread title would have said so. Rolling Eyes

They used to hang flag-shaped banners up there with the flags.

Either way, turns out he was referring to the flags.
