One interruption that seems not to have made it to the CityRail interruptions page, is when earlier tonight the Endeavour I was working from Bomaderry to Kiama came upon (but didn't hit) 20 or more Friesian cows in the rail corridor on the Down side of Berry.

Farmer Brown may be a little behind with the fence mending, or someone had let the gate open, but the end result was that we were made 20min late, as the mooers decided to trot ahead of us in the four foot (four feet in the four foot Laughing ), reducing us to about 10km/h or less for nearly 2km until they found an alternative route!

We only had two passengers, a couple of young guys from Bomaderry, and when I told them why we were going so slow, they thought it was a hoot.

If only all passengers could accept delays in such good humour.....

We did indeed Greg, but it took awhile for the silly buggers to realise it'd be easier for them to trot along in the soft grass of the cess, rather than on the ballast Rolling Eyes

Had I been the driver, I might have been tempted to give them a wee nudgelet with the COWcatcher Twisted Evil

With the dealys (keep in mind this has been ongoing since 4pm), wouldn't buses be better utilised both ways.  Confused

Saw 3 V-sets on the Down Relief between Epping and Denistone all at platforms with passengers milling about. One line must have been opened, a quite late XPT went on the Up through West Ryde about 6:15. Guard of one service at Epping said he wasn't sure but sounded like an interlocking box at Hawksbury River had succumbed to 110000 or so volts of lightning.

Major, major delays to Newcastle and Central Coast services this evening. A number of trains were held on the platforms at Epping, Eastwood and Denistone on the down, delayed from 30 to 60 minutes. Trains on the up were arriving into Central up to 100 minutes late.

Plently of Western Line trains amex'd this evening due to the lighting strikes at Hornsby, interesting to see that was left off the website, seems the delays were only to North Shore/Northern Line services...

I got stuck on the 1600 Gosford. Metronet was down from Hornsby, Rail Vehicle detection system was out, and from the outer home at Hornsby, it was stick for stick with at least a half hour wait at each, till at least the Hawksbury.
I called for a lift from Berowra, 2 hours after I boarded at Strathfield. Wasn't a great day.

Today there were delays due to an up freighter failing at the start of Cowan bank, 30 minute delays. G516/CLF were seen shunting back into the relief roads at Hawksbury River.
