Where's me Maryborough?

Yes, I thought it seemed a pretty  good improvement.

I don't imagine that a Tuesday afternoon  is particularly exceptional for patronage, either one way or another.

Better co-ordinated feeder service,  changing the Saturday and Sunday down times from 4pm to something like 5:30 or 6:00pm would be helpful (so you can go to an event like the football, a show or the races and then you can return by train) A 4pm train from melbourne dosn;t suit many people from what I hear.

And a day return from Melbourne has to come ... maybe when they get Clunes up and running

DAMNED Mad  if I can find my post re this topic from January 2011. Why can't I easily search my own postings, but I digress.

I believe there were around 40 pax in January when I travelled the route, so this is good news for the service and the planned service frequency increase, and bad news for the naysayers like, the occasional poster ZH, Sprinterfresh, Michaelje and their ilk.

Even Riccardo, now languishing on his forgotten blog would IMO be impressed.

Way it reads to me is that 40 people are using the two daily services - which is what? A Toyota Coaster-ful each way?

A while back I saw a minivan on the Ballarat - Ararat 'bus' service.

WOW!! A massive increase in patronage, about 50%.

Oh wait, its still 63.

So the subsidy per trip is probably now $250 instead of $300

Yawn

Kids: when criticising someone else's mathematics skills, make sure you can demonstrate the correct use of full stops. Makes you look less of a twat than you already are.

My perception and I stress my perception!. Is when you put in a good, regular, reliable transport link, its not long before the house building begins.  In fact you can even con people by saying you are going to build a transport link. Ask the people who flocked to Waverley including the AFL.

I think we need a bit more build it and they will come in State.

Tough luck for the people of Lancefield, Kilmore, Mernda, etc, etc, etc, eh?

DalyWaters. You did understand I meant the good transport link when I said build it and they will come?
  Blinkey Junior Train Controller

Yes DalyWaters, PT for so many communities is pretty awful, but is that an reason for inaction?

If these communities want better public transport, the need to be heard - to get organised.

Its the only way to get these improvements

You do realise I wrote in response to the "build it and they will come" idea.

Who is the advocate for the line to the unbuilt suburb?

Of course, its property developers.
A far more powerful advocacy group than existing residents could ever form.
  Villian Junior Train Controller

I advocate that as a developer before you get planning go ahead to build a whole new suburb, that part of your plan has to include a full transport solution.

Just having road access will not be good enough, it should also include a full public transport solution and I don't just mean a bus service. Well not unless it's something like the Aubahn in Adelaide.  Let the city planners start truly earn their money.

No, they need governments to mature and stop wasting money on political rorts like Marybugger.

How about a bus...

Clarkefield currently has better transport services than Romsey, and the former town's basically just a pub.

Here's a question: if the rail network we have today was the only rail network that had been built, it would be impossible to advocate the re-opening of various lines. So would people be asking for newly-built lines ourside of Melbourne?

Was pleasantly surprised this morning when the Maryborough train came into Ballarat with about 2/3 of seats full in a 2-car Vlo.  Most of these passengers alighted at Ballarat, with only about 1/4 of seats occupied by passengers going on to Melbourne.

It has become a bit of a local commuter service.  The average house price in Maryborough has gone from $150K to $200K since trains starting running on the line again, Creswick from $200k to 250K.  So still quite affordable and a reasonable option if you happen to work in Ballarat.  Could it be that a Maryborough - Castlemaine service rail service at 100 km/h be more viable than expected?
