So I was wondering, how does the future Perth station would look like after this re-alignment works finished?
Would it be completely different compared with what I saw when the last time I was in Perth?

There's a couple of artist impressions at http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/perthcitylink/RailProject/Imagegallery/tabid/466/language/en-US/Default.aspx, though you'll need to substitute the new 'light grey' platform tiling seen in some of drwaddles' photos of Perth station.
Basically, everything east of the horseshoe will be similar to at it always has been since the Joondalup line was opened, except with new tiling, an underpass to replace the 'woodbridge' and a new platform to the north of the current Platform 9 (bear in mind that there will have been some other changes since 2002, such as SmartRider gates as well). Everything west of the horseshoe will be bulldozed, including the bus station eventually.

would this be the first time b series have run on the fremantle line, apart from football specials? are they entering the tunnel on the wrong line or crossing over after esplanade? how will it cope if there still using the undergound for the fremantle line tomorow during peak hours? services will be running late all day!

No, using cross over at Esplanade to turn trains back to Freo.

Services are back to using A series sets from Perth platform 7 as of today. Although I heard there was some kind of delay anyhow.

I've just see in Wikipedia. It seems that two nearest platforms from the main building will be converted into a stub end platform. Sorry forgot their numbers.....

Update from this afternoon:

Wow! The island platform have disappeared!

Thanks drwaddles, some good photos there. Always nice to get a different (better!) view of the works.
In other news, construction of the tunnel has started and a time capsule has been buried with artist impressions of the future Perth station. Visible at http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/perthcitylink/Article/tabid/514/ArticleID/11/Marking-the-start-of-tunnel-construction.aspx

So, are they going to take that plastic roof off the station?
the railway station is a fine looking building, but its roof profile is totally obscured by that plastic roof
it would be good if they were going to remove it

I wouldn't have thought so, especially considering everyone instinctively moves to the 'open' parts of Platforms 6, 7 and 9 at the moment (something to take advantage of when grabbing a 4 or 6 car train from Platform 7). Also, the roof is currently the only weather protection for virtually all of platform 5.

well, it would be nice if we could see the roofline of the railway station building a bit better, I think

The new pedestrian underpass is taking shape now - I noticed what seems to be the walls leading up to Platform 5, plus what looks like new platform edging. Also the main tunnel is now coming along, albeit not really visible from the City Link live feed site. (It looks best from the train going to Fremantle in my opinion.)
Also noted a new, inactive signal a few metres from the end of the Barrack Street turnback - presumably a replacement 241 for when slew 2 happens?

Noticed some new masts have gone up in Perth station platforms 7/9, presumably for terminating the overhead during the next slew. Also some preliminary overhead/mast work for slew 2 (putting the turnback back to the Midland Down main, as per before it became a turnback) and the new McIver crossover on the Midland line.
Main tunnel construction is going well, won't be long until they're able to slew the Fremantle line across to Platforms 5, 6 and old-1.
------------------------------
I've noticed however that the works are a bit behind the schedule in the masterplan.

Well it is a bit of a mud pit in there at the moment - wellington boots are in high demand!

While at Perth Station yesterday, I saw that 2 separate tunnel enterance's were in the making, a metal frame on the Horseshoe Bridge side on the right, and thinking about the lines, Platform 5/6 would be Fremantle/Midland, Platform 4 would be Thornlie, Platform 3 for the Australind, Platform 1/2 for Mandurah/Joondalup, Platform 8 for Joondalup (P patten) and Platform 7/9 for Armadale. But then, that wouldn't work because of the amount of crossing-over and discomfort for passengers. But do I have that correct, or is it different to what I said?
Cheers!

Different to what you said!
Armadale to Freo via 5 & 6.
Midland from 7
Thornlie from 4
Australind from 3

Mighty long closure - I take it these will be the days for the Armadale-Fremantle connection? Will the turnback slew be done at the same time, seeing as it's a full station closure? What about installation of the new crossover west of McIver?
Will be fun seeing when Perthnow get hold of this, or worse the local newspapers (shudder).

Will make getting to the football on the 18th very interesting? I suppose they could have a turn-back service on the Fremantle Line, Fremantle to West Leederville and on the Joondalup line Clarkson to Leederville. Does the closure include the underground? If so no Football service to Mandurah. Midland or Armadale forget it.

And no spare platform in the city, for changeouts/problems this is going to be a nightmare!

Im not sure what you mean by new crossover west of McIver....
The turnback siding in Perth will not be able to be used (that currently turns trains off 9 and back onto 7), as Midland trains into 7 and will turn on themselves. The Midland line is effectively "isolated" and will work independently.
cough cough reduced cough problems cough frequency cough splutter ummm....

Roughly where this 3 car A-series is on Nearmap:
http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-31.951993,1 ... d=20120630
(Mentioned on page 51 of the Masterplan as "New crossover between the Midland Up & Down Mains east of Moore St".)
Having read the plan, I also notice it's scheduled for installation when the turnback is restored, as is a new crossover between the Midland Up and Armadale Down with access from the turnback. Though things haven't always gone exactly to the masterplan.
------------------------------
Is it still the plan to reopen old platform 1 as "Platform 11" for Joondalup and Fremantle special trains aka anything that currently uses the Perth turnback? I notice a couple of PIDs have been reinstalled.

Greetings folks i'm new to this forum, hello to my fellow rail enthusiasts, anyway i found this on the guidedogswa website
Perth station closure August 2012
http://www.guidedogswa.com.au/articles/ ... ugust-2012,
what's intrigued me is the fact that there will be no overhead wiring at all in the new tunnels, didn't know the transperth fleet supported dual power collecting options
the original fremantle line tunnel crossover was 70cm and has been increased to 1.5m

Welcome to Railpage Australia™, thewaratahtrain.
Thanks for the link, looks interesting. I guess that would mean no Mandurah to West Leederville football specials, though I'd like to know why the Fremantle line can't just be run to Perth Underground during off-peak as it was for the last slew. (I can understand peak period capacity constraints though). Indeed with the football match, I'd love to have a few B-sets roaming the Fremantle line again...
I can only presume that Armadale trains will run all-stations to replace the Thornlie line during this time.

Thank- you for that kind welcome to the boards mouse,
Armadale line services will most likely run all stops, be interesting how football services will be dealt with, especially with those ignorant football fans.
