So for all those on the replace-the-k bandwagon, what would happen to the local Newcastle-Morriset services? They're operated by a 2-car K set. You couldn't replace that with a Waratah, most of the platforms are only 4 cars long, and it wouldn't seem to make sense to replace a 2car train with an 8 car train anyway. Since there are four 2-car K sets running around up here what would you replace them with?

I believe the long-term plan for these trains are 4-car OSCars.

Wow, I feel like I've opened an incredible can of worms . . . I observed that the numbers are a neat fit, I've also noticed bureaucrats have a tendency to like neatness. So when you see an option that would neatly replace the oldest sets in the fleet, well it tends to be indicative of what said bureaucrats are thinking of doing. Who knows, maybe someone was getting a bit carried away with this whole fleet homogenisation thing and wanted to have all brand new shiny trains.

Hey there Einstein, you see all those 4-car T sets running around?
Dave

The project has certainly been a PR nightmare even if having a handful of trains on part of the network years late is acceptable to you.
Sub question would it be more cost effective to order another round of OSCAR trains which can run on the entire network and don't have to be tippy-toed onto the tracks?
