Remember Guys, the new system is in the pilot/testing phase. That is why it is only installed on one 3100 class set. On most, if not all journeys this set takes there is staff on board to assist passengers with using the system.
Once a full roll out is ready to commence, they're bound to start publishing more comprehensive and wide spread information on using the system.

Here's my video of the new validator!

My 2c on a 720 bus.

That will most probably come when the new ticket system is fully bought onto line, at the moment these are only on trial in some buses and trains. Just to see how they stand up etc before installing them on every thing.

David no doubt we will get media saturation when the new 'Smart' tickets are introduced on how to use/swipe them, my comment was about how to use the current 'magnetic stripe' tickets in the changed over equipment ie see Halo's last photo above.

Almost all of the Southlink fleet have the new validators now.

firstly, there is already some print media on the new validators which you can grab from Adelaide Metro info centres, they were also handing them out at the railway station once.
and the trial is over. The new validators work and are being installed on all the buses at the moment, I'm thinking every bus should have them by mid-year. trains and trams might have them by then too, and they're already on a couple of trains with new vending machines. Not sure if they're replacing the turnstiles with more modern ticket gates at Adelaide though, they might just remove them all together. In anycase, it's all gotta be finished by next year, you might even be able to get Tcards by the end of this year.

Look out Myki here we come. Well we hope not anyway.

I hope not. Fare evasion is rampant currently so we need more stations with barriers and staff rather than making it easier, to at least make fare evasion inconvenient and allow more of the capacity to be used by paying passengers rather than freeloading thieves. Travel on the Noarlunga line would be so much more pleasant if Oaklands, Brighton, Hallett Cove, Hallett Cove Beach and Noarlunga were all gated and staffed.
I know that this has previously been suggested by the Government for the three O-Bahn interchanges, it would be fantastic if it were to be brought in at principle stations on at least the more heavily used Noarlunga/Seaford and Gawler lines.

Edited for accuracy.

Edited for accuracy.
I gather you're waiting to hear from the Federal Government about an application to join the diplomatic service? They said something like "don't call us, we'll call you" when you submitted it? ![]()
That could be a good idea only once Seaford is in operation. I use Noarlunga as a jumping off point for great long bike rides to Aldinga, Willunga and Mt Compass, and to have to start at Hallett Cove with the big hill up to Lonsdale after the Field River in the way would kill me.
So what are your thoughts on improving the Gawler line? Leave it as it is currently going only to Mawson?

Getting back on topic......
Sighted today at Dry Creek was railcar 3022 about to head out on a test run after refurbishment. Also sighted was that this car is now also fitted with new TVM/Validator equipment.
So you might see more of the new equipment appear as the last batch of cars are refurbished.

Ok, it looks like they are begining to roll out the system onto the Railcar fleet.
So far from observations the following cars have Metrocard installed (as of 13/03/2012)
3121-3122
3101
3022
3006

Will the Jumbos be fitted with them too?

Will the Jumbos be fitted with them too?
If they are going to stay in service a while longer then the answer is yes they will be fitted. I think it was Poxbox3030 that stated the wiring etc was already in place on the Jumbo's and just needs the new validators etc wired up to the wiring.

We can add 3013 to the list. I'm preparing it for service as I type this out at dry creek ![]()
And yes, they will be eventually installed in the Jumbos

Makes sense. When the Jumbos are sent to the great traction depot in the sky the MetroCard machines can always be taken out and redeployed on the next batch of new vehicles (or station entry gates) to enter service.

Presumably, 3102 would also have Metrocard equipment installed as it is permanently coupled to 3101.

You would presume incorrect. Remember, the couplers on the COMENG sets are semi-permanent, meaning they can be uncoupled if needs be, but only by the fitters. In any instance, 3101 is currently coupled to 3103, I prepared them in the yard the other day and 3103 still has the old ticketing system in it where 3101 has the new one!

Another 2c worth from 3101

So when the Gawler line fully reopens, and i resume catching the train, i can buy a metrocard, however its pot luck whether i can validate it or not. Means I have to carry a multitrip with me for a few more months just incase?
Does the adelaide station have a metrocard turnstyle?

MetroCard won't be available until late this year at the earliest. And so far no MetroCard validators have been installed at Adelaide Station yet.

The 'Purchase Metrocard' facility on the TVM's is not active.
Trust me, I tried ![]()

So how can they say they're trialling the new metrocard system if you cant even buy a metrocard?
To be more accurate, they are trialling the old ticket in new validator system, nothing more.

Did you know you can now record your sightings in our new Sightings module?
