RailCorp is improving the safety and reliability of the CityRail network by investing $1.7 million to carry out various upgrading activities on the Carlingford Line.
We will be rebuilding track between Rosehill and Clyde, replacing timber sleepers with concrete sleepers and installing new rail and ballast.
Track reconstruction works provide long-term benefits by improving the reliability of train services, particularly during the warmer months. Tracks have a tendency to expand in heat and trains are required to slow down to maintain safety. A heavier and more modern, concrete-sleepered track means trains can operate at normal speeds - even in higher temperatures.
Concrete sleepers also have a longer life span, reducing the need for ongoing maintenance. New rails provide a smoother ride for passengers.
