Not Wycheproof.

Incorrect guesses Buloke, Whycheproof.

It's only been four days. I will wait another couple before giving a clue - although it's hard to give a clue without giving the game away. It's really quite a simple cryptic (I think).

Bradshaw?
"Calgully"

Phew. I was just about to give a clue of some sort, but Calgully came to my rescue.
Here's the man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Bradshaw
If you look at Mark Bau's site you see that Bradshaw also produced a guide for the VR, more than 100 years ago: http://www.victorianrailways.net/timetables/tthome.html

It's over to Calgully.

In fact the answer is not a scottish town name, but you will need knowledge of a wee bit of Scots dialect to solve this one.

Galaquil ?

In Scotland ( or certainly parts of it )  a fair & sports event is called a Gala

What   might you expect to find at a church fete?
Where might you buy a takeaway haggis?

"Kirk stall" with the last "k" dropped = Kirstall

Yes, Kirkstall it is.  A Kirk is a scottish church and you might buy a haggis at a stall at a fete.

Not sure what you mean about dropping the last "k" though.

Over to you.

Thanks , Calgully  Smile

The station name is one of those words your mind "warps" into recognition of what it knows

I am guilty of the same with this one -- it is actually Kir - stall , not Kirk-stall   Wink

It is actually Kirkstall - (with two ks).   I'm talking about the place between Koroit and Port Fairy.

Interestingly the VR maps (at least Andrew Waugh's 1940 version) show it as Kirstall: http://www.vrhistory.com/VRMaps/Vic1940.pdf - incorrectly I suggest...

As far as I can tell official VR timetables got it correct (with a second k).  Eg 1928

My apologies , Calgully  Embarassed

As duttonbay suggests , there is a spelling error in the Andrew Waugh maps I used as a reference

Checked my 1922 VR Map and , sure enough ,  it is shown as Kirkstall

Should have checked a second reference before writing Embarassed

No need to apologise mate.  It's just a discussion about facts - and you were most civil about it.

Anyway, my guess is Womboota.

Cheers , Calgully

Unfortunately ,  not Womboota
