Hey Yesman

Can I ask what stage you got to for the Acacia Ridge position before you got the thanks but no thanks emeil?

- craig_us

No stage, I just applied and this was the only communication from them on the subject.

Yes the different aggreements can be quite confusing. Even though you are a driver for Aurizon, your aggreement will depend on where you are working. As far as I know there are currently 5 different aggreements for drivers throughout the company. QRNational (Queensland freight and coal), Australian Eastern Railroad Nth Qld (Mt Isa line), Interail Coal (Hunter Valley), Interail Intermodal (NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Northern Territory), and Australian Western Railroad (Western Australia). And before you complain too much, spare a thought for Pacific National who I think currently have 7 different aggreements.

Just got a recruitment update email for the Acacia Ridge positions saying they are still going through the process and should have an outcome soon (perhaps this time next week) and wishing me a safe and happy Christmas.

Cheers

Maybe it's about time the Moderators split this forum to Aurizon Trainee Driver Positions  and  Queensland Rail Trainee Driver Postions, to save the confusion now that QR/QRN have split, and QRN has changed it's name to Aurizon. Wink

+1

Don't bother with teasing out whether the old posts belong in Aurizon or QR categories.  Eager jobseekers (been there, done that) should catch up regardless.  Just close the old thread (maybe leave it stickied for awhile, but not forever), and start two new ones...

Aurizon coal rumour (solid enough to post, but even the senior source involved doesn't know for sure what will happen as a result, or when):

VER packages for drivers may have indeed been overdone in Coal North in Aug/Sept, particularly in view of the subsequently announced contract win.  Relevant Coal North depot managers are allegedly pushing for existing trainee classes to get signed off, to clear the decks for new class intakes in a Feb/Mar timeframe.

If true at all, the rumoured timing seems optimistic unless previously-qualified candidates from the semi-aborted Mar 2012 intake are the only ones considered.  Don't want to get their hopes up too much, as a brand new candidate round-up is equally possible.  But either way, possibly good news for would-be new drivers.

Sounds awesome rook!

Do you think they will be looking for qualified drivers as well?

How good is this info? I too am like you, one of the poor sods that did all the testing and interviews early in 2012 to be told 7 months later, sorry the jobs have dissapeared. I have been told that i was in providing I passed the medical, but now I'm back to square one again, very frustrating. Do you know if our appliactions might still be active (kept on file) and therefore are eligible. I know the physc test will expire soon, so fingers crossed they give us a call. Have you spoken to anyone from QRN regarding our situation?? If so, did they suggest anything? If we apply for another job, do we have to go through every step again, including the physc testing?

Sorry for all the questions, maybe someone on this site may be able to answer or help. Thanks in advance.

Anyone else still in the running for Acacia Ridge, haven't received word since final interviews just before Christmas...save for an update email stating we would be contacted 'in due course'

hey all

Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of a definition of what "Permanent - Part Time" entails for Aurizion.  I mean in terms of job security, hours worked etc etc in comparison to a full time position?

Thanks in advance

just a quick question for some of you more experienced drivers.  Can any of you tell me if a 'Terminal Operator' position is a good way to perhaps work your way into a full time drivers position?

TigerBlood Locomotive Fireman

You don't 'work' into a position. You just apply for it.

It would probably help you more to have no railway experience. They're looking for clones to do as they say not as they.

I disagree.  I applied for a Trainee Locomotive Driver position and after several phone calls over several weeks, the person I finally spoke to said she had done the interviews and from the orginal ~130 applicants the 8 people she interviewed ALL had previous rail experience.

The only advantage I see in doing a non Rail related job first might be to build a good reputation within the same company that runs the trains and then apply for the Rail jobs internally.

Well the reason I asked if a terminal operator position was a good way to work into a driver position is because parts of the terminal operator role include shunting, carrage loading and maintenance general freight work.  I would of thought that if you became qualified in a role that included shunting then that would be a huge step towards getting a driver position.
