4AD1 arrived at Alice Springs around 5 PM on 12/27 with GWU005 and CLP17

Two trains observed passing through Heavitree Gap in Alice on 1/1/2013:

1930: 3AD1 - GWU003 + CLP14

2345: Southbound Empty Ore - Quad GWA (2x GWA - fuel tender - 2x GWA) - is this one of the trains that is going to the port of Darwin until the port in Whyalla is ready?

Certainly sounds like it.

Whyalla is supposedly up and running, but heard the Darwin runs would also continue for a few more weeks.

Two out of the last three weeks there have been no red units on the Ghan through Alice Springs.  On February 4th, NR69 (PacNat paint) and NR65 (NR paint) were noted on 1AD8 at Alice Springs yard.  See the link below for a similar PacNat/NR paint scheme combination (NR73/NR114) that was observed on 18 February 2013 as 1AD8 departs Alice Spring on time at 6PM.
