They seem to be doing a good job themselves, stopping their own trains,  putting locomotives in the dirt.....again!

Is Yilliminning-Corrigin-Bruce Rock closed forever or is there grain to be cleared before that happens?

The section north of Yilliminning is still open, it is the only way to get narrow gauge trains to West Merredin.

Interesting, I had read elsewhere that it was due to close mid-2011.

What's the go with the CBH loco (one of the NG variety???) sitting in the Qube/Greentrains/Coote compound in Midland, behind a line of K class?

I noticed CBH017 is missing is engine at the moment. assumable a warranty job, but as this was one of the later loco's delivered, seems a bit soon.

Could be jumping the gun, but I notice as it was built in the US there is no one speaking out about  poor quality.

I'm doing models of the CBH wagons, and I'm trying to get a good set of numbers for the rake.
Firstly, as they are joined together in pairs, are they always running numbers?
Also, what number did the first wagon that arrived have and the last wagon? What did they start and end with?

I have seen a rake with different last digits on, such as 01160K, 01078Y and 01137D.
What is the last letter signifying?
I would have thought they would have just numbered them.

CBH002 hooked to 011 stopped light engine just south of Abernethy Rd Tunnel approx 5:20pm, looked like 011 (facing south) was "leading" - set off southbound shortly after. Reason?

CBH001 was running a rake through the grain transshipping point in West Merredin yard yesterday, but all of the NG lines out of town looked shiny from use. Also noted a hi-rail vehicle about five kilometres north of Bruce Rock checking the line there.

Yesterday afternoon at about 1530, I caught CBH009 and a short rake of NG hoppers heading to the port through Forrestfield.
As it was in motion I wasnt able to read the load stickers on the hoppers, but they seemed smaller than what I though other NG hoppers were, though maybe is because I have seen more SG than NG stock.

Are CBH getting 2 different sized NG stock to match the loco weights, or is all NG stock of the same tonnage with loading restrictions depending on where they are running??

Cheers

I can confirm something here as my trip to Merredin on the weekend was an interesting one.
As Merredin is the hub for narrow and standard gauge, this is the best place to see the wagons together.
I saw the first ones and thought that I had done my models too long and not as high.  Then I released that I was looking at the standard gauge ones.
The narrow gauge that was in front of it was smaller! That is how I have done the models, so excellent!
Standard does 77 ton, narrow is 66 ton.  They are both 14m long.

You can see that the narrow gauge in front looks longer, but it is because it is not as high as the standard gauge one. (Hope the pic comes out!)
I also noticed that the narrow gauge has a straight top bogie, but the standard has a curved top one. This brings the height a little taller too.

Got lots of running numbers so I can now expand my fleet!

Watco were loading at Wickepin yesterday, with CBH holding one of their sausage sizzles to mark the first train.  CBH005 then headed south in the afternoon to stable at Yilliminning with 5K84.  CBH006 came down in the evening with 5K86, with the rakes to combine at Yilliminning.

CBH004 was loading at Ainsworth, could well have been the first CBH train to load there as well.  Today, two separate trains were reported heading north of West Merredin on the Nungarin line.

Talking to the crew yesterday at Yilliminning, they said they were working trains to Kulin next week.  It looks like the Tier 3 lines are being hit hard at the moment, with a decision on their future pending in October.

8888 - any idea on where they will be loading out of next week? I am trying to get the time to follow a Quairading train, or a Merredin - Narrogin train, but i have no idea when they actually run.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Had a message during the week that Watco are running to Kulin and Kondinin next week.  A mate chased an inbound this past week on the Kulin line, it left around the 900 am mark.

Thanks for that Simon, much appreciated. I will be working along the York - Merredin Road for a few months later this year, so hopefully there will be a good chance to see some Quairading trains then. I would love to get out to both Kulin and Kondinin this coming week if possible as well - was that 0900 am out of Kulin?

Cheers,
Matt.
