    His an alright man, he got off the hitachi with me and came back to flinders st though, didn't quiet understand why, it was late he might have just made sure I was safe

    There was 4 in service sets side by side at Epping yards a couple of weeks ago

    Possibly the four sets not now in use.   Still leaves three for service across the network and they still turn up unpredictably almost anywhere.  The best chance is peak hours, possibly better in the PM peak when things have been running half the day and had a chance to sit down, but they can appear at any time of any day.

    With reduced service on today's public holiday requiring only the same number of sets as the basic weekend service (as opposed to the weekday peak) I doubt it.  But you never know your luck.

    Hitachi's go wherever fleet put them, there's no restrictions on what lines or what time they run. Every time trains are stabled fleet determines what they will form when they are docked, bearing in mind if there are any faults recorded. station staff generally don't know when a hitachi will meander through unless they know the timetable well enough to know what service it forms when it terminates. So unless they are sent off for maintenance its up to the fleet controllers to send hitachi's where they are needed.
