Wyee Cement Siding

    Is the Wyee Cement Siding still in use (unlikely)? If not, when was it last used/booked out of service?

    It's good to see there's ample room for quadruplication through Wyee  Very Happy

    I live in Wyee just up the road from the station. A few years ago the sidings were gradually removed starting with the up loop and electricity siding. The rails were stored on the down loops for a while before they were removed. They then removed the ballast and left it as a huge ditch. Nowadays, the only remaints are the crossover at the sydney end and a crossover between a section of the down loops at the newcastle end (althougth almost buried and hard to make out).

    I actually spent some time looking at the main north and believe most of the track could be triplicated or quadruplicated except for between Cowan and Woy Woy.

    As an Enfield Guard I can recall putting empty ARH/ARX's in there, I believe the out going were loaded with fly ash from local power generation plants.

    My old man said he used to work there many years ago. He also said when I was knee high to a grasshopper that I fell off the siding where the car park is now and was knocked unconscious. Laughing

    If anyone has photo's of the loading facility could they please PM me as I am modelling that area?

    Yes, the loco is on the Down side of the platform. The train it is hauling is in the Up loop waiting for the shunting to be completed and the return of the loco.

    Was there ever a Station Masters home there?  The reason I ask is that the station was manned more by ASM's & was frequently switched out, & if one of the signal men/ASM's was sick or required at another station Wyee was switched out with him going elsewhere, except on day shift, owing to the 2 pick ups, 1 down & 1 up.

    I do however seem to remember a house up on the down side embankment just near where the points into the down loop from the south were placed.  Whether a railway house or other I have no idea now.

    I would say yes.  Sort of confirms an aspect of what I said about the location even though I was out a bit.  No sign of it on Google Earth now.

    Long gone now. My question mark was in reference to if SM or ASM. In the years I knew of this location (from early seventies) this was the only house near the station.

    My mistake, so apologies. It could be either an ASM or SM & may not necessarily been one from Wyee either.

    In those days both grades along with many others such as signalmen were actually placed as relief staff with a designated home station, these positions were advertised when vacancies occurred in the weekly notices booklets that came out, weekly.  Thus the position advertised could be relief officer ASM or SM, Morriset, Cockle Ck, Wyong, Home station Wyee.  Depending on the grade, others in the same grade who had gone to the bush areas for promotions could apply for them as a transfer or a junior officer for promotion in that position, alongside the position being advertised would be No House, or House provided or House available, as well as numbers of positions & whether or not it was day shift only (SM) or shift work including day shift (ASM)

    Often the availability of a house was incentive for others, but usually the senior applicant, who was the successful candidate got the house.  They had to pay rent which was deducted from their wages each fortnight, if a move from the bush was involved, it would also include help to move the furniture of the successful person. That was done by providing a Louvre van for the applicant.

    That's the building I have been looking for OK2RUN. Thanks. I know at Morisset, both SM's lived next to the station up until several years ago. Unfortunately Peter passed away and Barry retired so now there both vacant properties. Also I think they have heritage listing so can't be knocked down.

    As it certainly looks Wyee to me even with the O/head in place.

    How the hell do you come by that thought? I lived near that location for many years, travelled by train past that location for many years, have many other photographs at that location, many photographs with the station sign in view of that location, yes I'm sure 100% that's WYEE!

    My mistake. I just thought the station looks different and there's no trace of the house so.. never mind, my mistake. a very good picture (why i thought it was odd with the steam train there)... never mind.
