Did Colin Gray spend time as a fuelman at Richmond, if so, I went through engineman school with him, but some health reason I think excluded him from going on the road, it's been a long time since I have heard the name, my condolences to family and friends.

It seems a pity that the family (with help)  isn't selling the stuff on eBay or similar, because I suspect that is where it'll end up.

Hope the family is getting some help so the stuff is not given away at ridiculous prices.  I did not know the deceased but sympathy to the family and don't give things away too cheaply.  Would not honour the memory of dear departed to do so.

guys, respect the families  decisions as to the collection, be it ebay, gifted to  museum, thrown onto the street, or as they have decided to do. It is not our decision to  make.

That is good if it has been saved where it is accessible to future generations. There would be copies existing of his photos, some downloaded from chat pages too. From info available the sale mentions Slides rather than photos (prints). Well we will see on the day.

Recently, I purchased from ebay a photo album containing some wonderful shots from a railway enthusiast who had sadly passed away. Unfortunately, the seller (family) would not advise me of the name of the photographer as I would like to be able to provide providence.

Maybe someone could enlighten me with a name one day.

Pity, some people just don't 'get it' - the importance of this sort of thing.

At least they didn't burn it or chuck it in the skip. I hope it makes some of us think about what could happen to our hobby stuff, when we fall off the perch, which could be tomorrow of course.

People who have no interest in a particular thing do not stop and think that out there in the big world there could be people who would give an arm and a leg to get hold of it. The Sulo Bin is an easy way out I suppose.

The lament was in relation to that the fact that often family members often have ZERO interest in their partners/parents/relatives hobby. So much so, that they're only interested in 'getting rid of the clutter', which may involve selling it off, or just dumping it. Tranx's complaint was that the seller's refused to advise of the photographers name, so he could credit the photos. Usually this is considered a 'GOOD THING' as it stops copyright infringements.

I have several times read of people rescuing important railway collections, just because they happened to be walking past a skip or incinerator & took the trouble to look, recognised it for what it was & claimed some at least.

I have been there and saved a copy of a plan of the Adelaide Station as it was before the tracks were modernised in layout, it also shows the old railcar depot tracks and all sidings in the yard at the time even a proposed place for the Old Adelaide Turntable in the railcar depot as well. It is a huge plan and I only got it by accident as it was on it's way to be pulped up as cardboard or something years back. Piece of history now as the yard has changed that much. Even the Webb platforms are no longer there either but they are on the plan.

The Show organizers have referred enquirers to the actual show as it would be unfair to do sales beforehand.
