Any sign of CD4301 out on FMG yet?

Has there been any rail activity in the Plbara region since SM65, JasonScott, Torquelimited and Crisfitz last made posts? Or has the Chinese downturn stopped traffic?

I for one, and I know many others, would enjoy seeing the pictures and reading more about rail activity at BHPBiliiton, FMG and Riot Tinto operations in the region.

Cheers,

Answering the call for more Pilbara action. I agree, has gone a little quite with nothing from this region lately.
Still the same, but with new loco orders filtering through.
Just a few quick snaps in my travels today. Quality not the best but its a start....

Earlier in thread, issues with the GEVO-12 engine were identified.

Out of interest, I note that the 7HDL-16's in the C6000's are to be replaced by GEVO-16s.

I'm a bit vague on the HDL engine. It seemed, like the EMD 265H to have had a short life in the product catalogue. Was there something fundamentally wrong with it?

And how are the GEVO's holding up now that GE have been over the wrecks with a fine-toothed comb?

Cheers

As far as I know all the HDL engines in BHP Billiton units had all been replaced by mid 2008. You could tell by the new silver coloured exhaust stacks projecting up through the hood openings, until they got burned black after some time in service. The V250 engines sounded different to the HDL, so it was fairly obvious.

The HDL was the GE designation for the German Deutz model 632 engine which is still in production. Deutz concentrated on the inline version of the engine, and GE concentrated on the vee type engine which they called the HDL. GE decided that the crankcase of the HDL wasn't strong enough and after making several US law firms much wealthier and probably some German lawyers, designed the GEVO or V250 as a stronger version of the HDL. The bore, stroke and the speed of both engines were the same.

Note the post-Granville (1976) encasement of spindly bridge piers with concrete deflection walls.

Most bridges in NSW have been so treated.

What about other states and other countries?

I see no new reports of GEs self-destructing. Does this mean they got on top of the problem with the EVO-12s?

Change of topic, same area though - what weight of rail is being used? Is it 68kg or something heavier?

Rio use head hardened 68kg, I think BHP / FMG are the same.

Unfortunately dw54 the EVO's are still self destructing.  We are currently in the midst of significant catastrophic piston and con-rod failures at RT.

Have been flat out and barely had a chance to shoot anything lately.
We've (RTIO) got locos coming in, more es44dci's. unsure on exact numbers (getting up into the 8190's now) but we're meant to be getting some 44ac's (5 or so?)
Getting another 5 or so consists in before the end of the year, apparently. Looking for something like 45 tags in the near future.
Not slowing down here!
Still hiring, still shipping dirt.
A few projects have been put on hold but not many have been scrapped.
