Location: at sunbury on a V/line service into melbourne, waiting for thousands of impatient people to get on
I noticed that the train will be in echuca for 2 days. Will it be running short trips up to barnes? If so, what times will they be running? I will be otherwise occupied that weekend at the steam rally and would like to know times please.

It's only in Echuca from Sunday morning to Monday morning according to the brochure.  Hopefully there are some shuttles that day, but I wouldn't bet on it.

While in Swan Hill on the Saturday, it would be great if it ran to say Woorinen on a shuttle.

Looks loke an absolutely fantastic trip!
Would love to go, but unfortunately, the cost is way too expensive for my budget.

Some great videos there, there is just something about a steam train on a cold winters night.

Seen the train at Bendigo both nights so far. The sound of the R working up the grade into Bendigo Station sounded good from a kilometre away, just wish I was in position with a video camera to record the event.

Rode a velocity to Bendigo, and caught the Steamrail train back to Southern Cross. Had a good trip, and enjoyed the meal as well. So to those who had the full weekend, kucky you. And thanks to all the hard working Steamrail people.

Some video of the Northern Weekender returning to Melbourne yesterday at both Huntly and Big Hill. I would have liked to get it more, but I was working each day of the weekend...

I was fortunate to catch it in Swan Hill. Heard the whistle and flew out the door to see it shortly after it arrived.
It was great to see it cut-off then turned and serviced before being stabled for the afternoon/early evening.

Must admit, I drove back a few times in the day to have another look. The yards looked amazing with the "R", an "S" with a good consist and the old RT sitting in the yards. Got lots of good photos and I will post here when I succeed in following the listing instructions.
Thanks to the loco servicing crew I spoke to and who answered my questions. Great ambassadors for Steamrail on what was a busy weekend for them.

On Monday evening I saw it fly through Gisborne. Nothing like a cold night and a steam engine. The echo as it rounded Macedon on a still night was amazing. Then a feint glow of light turned into a sharp beam as it headed up the straight to the station. The noise, smell and smoke was over in a flash as it headed to Sunbury.

We were up in the area over the long weekend, so I made sure we got a couple of shots.  We camped near the line on Friday night and had a nice early start with the R & S sprinting oiver the plains at dawn.  Very nice.  Got a few sunrise shots at Kerang, then a speedy shot at Lake Boga, followed by a Swan Hill arrival.  We drove back to Cohuna via the NSW side, and came across bits of the old Stony Crossing line, then inspected the railway remains at Koondrook.  Sunday morning we saw it come into Echuca, then Monday followed back to Bendigo before heading back to the North East.  Got some nice shots and video along the way.  A couple below, more here: http://pics.steamfreak.com

Some excellent photos and video footage - thanks to everyone who has posted.
In all the footage I have seen, the R has sounded superb.
And . . . that was a hell of a noisy farewell from Echuca !

Is it me or does R761 have a totally different exhaust note this year has front end work been done over the summer?

Sounded much the same to me. Might be the cold winter air with no wind making it sound slightly different in the recordings.
