12:40 just saw PPTV passing through Auburn being hauled by 4486 looks to be missing quite a few parts.
Inside

It's always been missing quite a few parts - PPTV was essentially a stainless steel shell with the bare minimum gear to make it move. No GRP, handrails, vinyl or seats. Not even the doors worked.

Interesting that they decided to loco haul it rather than bring the two TDCs up on trucks. Was it the full 4 cars?

If none of the doors worked, then all 4 cars would be going back to Cardiff, no? They all need to be fitted out, etc.

Why were they hauling the pptv around a few weeks ago, just from Auburn somewhere on the East Hills line and back to my knowledge?
Also, what set will the pptv become, or just spares.
And yes, I'm not the smartest at this.

That's a pretty big call to make. Trains have a decent lifespan... Who knows what the future will bring...?

Good point Raichase, my 5am brain was probably not at its explanatory best. However there are no current plans to send the A's south anytime in the fleet allocation plans I've seen up until 2019 (any unforeseen transpositions aside of course). As far as I know, what happens beyond 2019 is still to be determined.

Shame on me too for not expanding on my post - that's exactly it. Everything is only as it is until it changes! A few years ago, a lack of Tangaras on Sector 2, and K Sets on Sector 3 would have seemed a bit silly, but now...

I think the government should fade out all the other suburban sets and only have A-sets, and also design a V-set replacement and replace the V-sets.

-V Set repalcement should be done in next 10 - 20 years when the last of the Vs cannot move.
-Suburban sets will not be repalced with A Sets due to the many issues with getting supply back and stuff.
-However I do see maybe OSCars doing Suburban duties once the V Set repalcement comes (if they order enough to repalce all the V Sets and OSCars) and possibly new trains to replace    the remaining S Sets (no aircon) and possibly C Sets (bad reliability).
-K Sets will stay until they cannot move s they have aircon.
-Tangaras have aircon and the only issue seems to be computer upgrades which can be done and is possibly being done now or in the future.
-Millenniums are new trains and will not be replaced for a long long time.

The money will be better spend on network upgrades to improve efficiency, on time running and reliability

You'll see A sets at Hurstville for sure. Especially since they go around the Banko. I myself have taken an A set to Hurstville when Sydenham had a points failure.

Seen them there often, every time the Banko is closed at the weekend, even seen a couple as far south as Waterfall while testing.

Due to a points failure at Sutherland earlier tonight, Waratah set A43 was sent down the Eastern Suburbs Railway to operate a shuttle service between Central and Bondi Junction.

Here it stands at Bondi Junction at 1925 hours.

I'm hearing the motor cars will be scrapped. They were originally destined to become part of set 42 (numbered N5342 and N5442), but this never happened.

I did two yo-yos and went home. Most people were more interested in the fact that service had hit the fan than the fact a 'Tah was down here.

...though to be perfectly honest, I didn't regret getting a Tangara this morning ;P

Sitting in A23 this morning and noticed on the passenger display when the crew make an announcement at interchange stations, that "guard announcement" no longer shows and has been changed to "driver announcement".
Could this be a sign of some changes to come in regards to crewing? Or just a new sign?

"Driver announcement" is displayed when the intercom handset on the driver's desk is used. It may have been the guard using this intercom, or the driver making the announcement from the leading cab. That message has always been in the system and it could display guard or driver depending on which intercom is used.

Sighted A49 at AMF (Clyde end of the yard) on Friday Night, 28/6/13, at 1900 hours.

Is this the most current set delivered ?

I forgot to post about this, but I caught a Lidcombe via Sydenham and Bankstown and I noticed that the announcements by the auto DVA system was well, inaudible.
The guards announcements and the 'doors closing stand clear' were much louder than the other announcements. I could hear music from people headphones louder than the announcements coming from the DVA System!!

I mean, If someone is blind, they wouldn't be able to hear the announcements except if they had super sonic hearing!! Sure Gladys learnt her lesson from the Graeme Innes (I think thats how his name is spelt) case???
