Hmmm - yes! Also, there's Bowenfels, at the very end of the Western Overhead (is it still "live"?). Between Lithgow and Bowenfels, there was also Cooerwull (now gone without trace), while of course, on the Sydney side of Lithgow, there's Eskbank. On the Illawarra, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that Lilyvale still stands, as does the short platform of Clifton (between Coal Cliff Tunnel and Scarborough), while the platform of Jasper's Brush (between Berry and Bomaderry) is still in existence.

Bowenfels does exist, AFAIK the station building has a heritage listing on it. Cooerwull is roughly where the footbridge stands near Cooerwull Public School, since there is going to be a new Cityrail service from (Sydney) Lithgow to Bathurst, does this mean that stations like Wallerawang, Rydal, Tarana & Raglan are "ghost" stations?

Oakhampton is probably not as useful as a station site somewhere near the junction of Aberglassyn Road/Denton Park Drive. That would be much more convenient for the majority of residents, keeping in mind that the Oakhampton area is floodprone and unlikely to be too much further developed. The 'centre of gravity' of the development will always be further south.

The land which would give access to such a location is already developed, with houses erected. The remaining land is zoned environmental conservation, so would be an unlikely access point. The walk to the current site of Oakhampton from McKeachie's Run estate and surrounds would be shorter than some commuters are presently walking to Telarah. With the expansion of settlement in Maitland towards the north through Bolwarra and Bolwarra Heights, and the release of land for large lot residential beyond, there is probably a case for the provision of peak-hour services extended as far as Paterson to take pressure from Maitland itself, where parking is at a premium, and Telarah, where there is no room to provide additional commuter parking.

Environmental conservation doesn't preclude construction of a walkway. 
 

The walk to Oakhampton would be very long and not attract a large enough number of people for it to be worthwhile. The station site I suggested is probably the most convenient in terms of walking catchment but there's still plenty of people who would need to either cycle or drive to it. This is just the nature of how this area has been developed.

No need to go as far as Paterson for park and ride - a station in the vicinity of Maitland Vale Road would suffice. Aside from serving Bolwarra Heights and intercepting commuters driving from Paterson and Woodville, it would probably pick up a bit of patronage from the new estates near Largs as well. More importantly, it's far less cost than extending suburban services to Paterson.

The Maitland LEP would however need to be overridden to allow for construction of a station at the Aberglasslyn location, which would only be accessible by foot, whereas both Oakhampton and Mindaribba both have scope for vehicular access.

In the case of Mindaribba, provision of some park and ride, which would be an easier location than near Maitland Vale Road, and would obviate the need for an extra loop. Maybe you could turn back commuter trains at Mindaribba, but I still think Paterson is a more logical location.

I repeat, based on personal observation when I worked in Telarah over the last ten years, there are many commuters walking from the Rutherford/Aberglasslyn area who would have a shorter walk to Oakhampton than they presently undertake to Telarah.

Recently saw in the Newcastle Herald and Maitland Mercury papers a push to open up a new station for Aberglasslyn, There are a few prime spots for it and as you have said, Somewhere along Aberglasslyn Rd at the lower side of McKeachie's Run would be the ideal spot. Could tie in well with the new lot of shops going in along Aberglasslyn Rd. Would save me driving to Maitland (Car is safer at Maitland than Telarah) and less than a 5 minute walk to home...

I was at McKeachie's Run today looking at display homes and noticed a freighter passing. I didn't realise how close the line was to the development.
