Miscellaneous SA Sightings

Thanks for that Alco.
Are the grain trains normally a 40 car consist or do they do less every now and then?
I didn't count the cars but it didn't seem to have 40 on it. Mind you it was flying up the hill, being empty, so it might have just seemed like less.
I didn't think that all the locos were powered up, the GWU sounded like it was doing it easy which would explain what you said about a GWU hauling a 40 car consist and 3 dead locos easy.
2212 was definitely working though, the exhaust fumes and noise gave that away, I do enjoy seeing and hearing the old girls being flogged up to the summit.
Thanks again.

40 hoppers is the norm but they some times run less. They have done a couple of trains out of Tailem Bend with 50 hoppers before which is normal to some of the northern sites.

Re parts, You'd think so, but I remember they had to have parts made in the past.

Saw something strange today .... Noticed W1** buses on Port Road between Beverley and Brompton.
So I assumed there was a shut down between Woodville and the City, but then on the way back home I followed a W1  along War Memorial Drive, and Park Tc, only to stop at the Park Tc level crossing for a railcar heading towards Woodville! After it passed and I was on my way again I looked west as I crossed the line and saw a city bound service near Bowden station!

Anyone know why the service duplication was happening?

**{W1 is the usual port line bus subsitution}

Today's BALCO was hauled by S311-S300, they certainly put on a good show smoke-wise! Very Happy

After only two days on the BALCO, S311-S300 have been placed back at Islington Workshops, with the usual GL 'back' on this train. Sad

I guess Patrick Portlink just wanted to get some mileage into the S's?

S311-S300 were back on the Balco today, & they'll return to the Adelaide area tomorrow afternoon. I'm assuming GL108 has failed once again. Won't surprise if the GL returns on Friday.

GML10-8030 left Dry Creek this morning minus a few of the ballast hoppers & the crewvan a train no. 1M22 headed for Gheringhap. Not sure if those two locos will stay in Victoria to work local trains there, or return to SA with ballast.

Yesterday (i.e Friday 23rd August) while at work saw SCT014? with a number of boxcars heading towards Adelaide. (May have been 6MA9)?

GMXX/70X/GWU004 headed an empty grain train east and returned today. Sorry about the sketchy info as I couldn't see the locos properly because of the trees in the way:x

For unknown reasons, DL43 lead two boring NR's into Islington on 5PM5, sadly I couldn't record of photograph this train as I tried to catch it but it was too late.

Why doesn't this happen on a regular basis?

Train was 5MP5 not 5PM5.

Lead engine NR53 at Tailem Bend had some brake problem i am told so they put DL43 up the front to get to Islington. The 2 NRs were turned at the dry creek triangle so now NR68 up the front leading NR53 on the rear through to Perth.
