South Yarra Station Kiosk

Definitely shed a tear upon seeing this sight last evening. Inside word is that the shop was removed to create more space around the station. Does anyone have any more info? Very sad day for the schoolboys and commuters of South Yarra.

Always a good deal, when all around is trendy and expensive

Ohhh now that sux , had great egg n bacon sangas and the coffee was good too , every thing was well priced and not overly expensive at all . As for more room there was plenty of room around the cafe so i think thats a load of croc , How long till a Red Engine cafe replaces it with awful over priced rubbish they try to pass off as food

Ahhh...such memories. I remember pre-renovation when it was on the side of the entrance where the ticket window currently is. Cans of drink were about $1. Didn't have any hot food. Then it all changed, but despite the 7/11 they installed, I still preferred my post-school snack to come from the kiosk.

Thanks God its gone I say. Time to open up the station to Toorak Road by removing more of the retail.

The kiosk was installed AFTER the ticket barriers were installed at South Yarra - and should never have gone in at that location. Space is indeed at a premium at South Yarra and I suspect it's only a matter of time before one of the major retail tenant facing Toorak Road will need to go as well to create more space. The station gets VERY crowded in the mornings.

New ticket barriers go in there very shortly - and not in the location where the existing barriers are. All shall become clear!  Smile  The new barriers will have more capacity than the existing barriers - but even so with the patronage growth at South Yarra then more changes will be required before too long.

Indeed this is sad. The food looked like it was sitting all day but it was always fresh, the staff were friendly and everything was cheap.

The new arrangement is hopeless for passengers changing platforms. There was no need to go so deep into the concourse. The new myki barriers should have been placed on an angle to get more room. And one of the readers has had to be permanently placed out of service as people, who had not touched on before starting their journey, could lean over the railing, touch on and then touch off and thereby get a free trip through a change of mind transaction. Just another example of build first and think second.

And I agree about the kiosk. It was easily the best in Melbourne, probably anywhere, in terms of quality and price. Best chips by a mile. I would sometimes deliberately break my journey just to pick something up. Now it's only high priced crap from nearby outlets. A metaphor for myki perhaps.

No, all they need to do is make the NW barrier exit-only. You can't reach the IN validator on the SW barrier from inside the validated area, because it's on the far side.
You can't use the plinth-validators to touch on from inside the station either when they're bagged, as there's a conductive plate inside the bag blocking the tag.

The cafe on the N side has started selling cheap hot food from behind its roller door. I am yet to sample it.
