Hey,

Seeking an Athearn USRA Light Mikado for a RRM 720 kit!

Anyone knows of any second hand ones floating around locally would be great!

There's got to be a better light Mick around than the Athearn one. I've got a couple (not up for grabs...) and a couple of replacement main drive gears - for when (not if) the originals split. Replacing these gears is not a simple operation.

New to this, was just going by the recommended instructions for the 720 assembly. I read that IHC premier series light mikado mechs work with a bit of adjustment. Seeking any model light mikado/advice re. assembling the rocky river sar 720.

Hi,

The Athearn Genesis USRA Light Mikado mech, is an excellent mech. I have used it for my 720-class and it runs beautifully. I have it coupled to a ESU Loksound decoder.

The 720-class kit has been made with the Athearn mechanism in mind. This means that some surgery of the kit "may" have to occur to get an alternate mechanism to fit. The kit also re-uses many components off the "donor" model. With that in mind, using other mikados as the "donor" may have some issues.

Potential donors are the Broadway Limited USRA light mikado which is an excellent model and as you have suggested, the IHC. Personally, I'd use the Broadway Limited way in advance to the IHC.

Good luck, the 720-class kit is a very satisfying kit to build.

Hi all,

Looking for 3 pairs of Lima Overland bogies (see this thread for more information). I know it's a long shot, but hopefully somebody has some left over from a project.

Please PM me if you have any available.

Thanks.

Hi Monk

I don't have any from the Lima Overland cars, but what about the Southern Aurora carriages? I've got a set that are leftover from a conversion project if this could help? Smile

Cheers

I have a bit of an update on my post above.

There are instructions available to convert the IHC Mikado into a 720-class . So it seems that the work has been done to assist with that mechanism option. The person who has done that job (Peter) is a member on here (sorry can't remember his user name), but I'm sure he can be contacted via Nigel at "Model Design Studio" (http://www.modeldesignstudio.com.au/). I'm sure that Peter will be able to give you an informed opinion on the IHC mechanism.

Good luck!

Lifelike never did then in Australian National colours, but Powerline released them as such in their Freightline series. They were the same cars though. You might get a better response for this.

Are these the ones that made up the stone train?
If so I have about 15 of them. Some are red SAR others Grey SAR and the rest Green and Gold ANR. I don't use them any more and if I can find them, I will take a picture. They were impressive behind the two Lima super detailed 930's I also still have Smile
