Not being a VR modeller but I bought one at Epping NSW this year .I also bought a Tsunami EMD645 turbo sound decoder but now im not so sure if it had a turbo or not .Can someone comfirm if it did or it didn't. I have installed the decoder already, and the speaker in the fuel tank , but it crackles ,anyone help as to why the speaker would crackle?

Just guessing, but a crackling speaker sounds like a loose connection to the speaker to me.

Anzac,X31-36 had EMD 16 567E roots blown engines and the later builds from new had EMD 16 645E roots blown (same as 422 class) so no turbo for X47.

If it is mounted in the fuel tank, I've found the magnet in the speaker can also pick up tiny pieces of metal/iron filings from along the track and this can have a crackling effect on the sound too.
