3104 and 2122f were sitting in Yukan yard this morning. 3104 has the QR logo painted out.

8 of the 3100 class that were stored in the Wagon Maintenance Facility have been moved over to the Locomotive Servicing area.

15 of the remaining 3100's are up for sale, wondered if the first 3 in South Africa are well liked and that they could get more from Queensland?

The first three 3100s are now working in the Congo after a refurb in South Africa...pretty reasonable to assume a few more will end up in the region.

Highly likely that more will end up in the area

Katanga could easily absorb another 15 electrics, over 700km of electrified track, the existing SNCC fleet is totally stuffed. The RRL component of RRL Grindrod is a BEE (Black Empowerment Enterprise), so well versed in the African way of conducting business. They will receive a squillion dollars for a 3 to 5 year wet hire contract, then remit a goodly amount back into the European blind trusts run by the DRC President and his cronies, plus generous donations to the ruling ANC Party's apparatchiks in SA for turning a blind eye (and allowing corrupt practice to flourish). In Africa locomotives are just a convenient tool to rob the treasury, and line the pockets of the political elite.

This is the SNCC Facebook page, note the huge number of well fed suits, in what is arguably Africa's poorest country, where 80% of Government revenues are purloined by the political elite. These boyo's could teach our Labour Party's faceless men new tricks

If you work you way down through the photos, 3100, 2600 and 1720 in SNCC red livery

Slightly off topic

The guys at RRL Grindrod's contract gold ore haul operation at Welkom in the Free State, have indicated that a ex Qld 2600 is due there for shakedown (prior to SNCC hire) in the next couple of weeks

The only unallocated 2600 is AR&TS's  2612

If this is the case it will indicate that RRL Grindrod have done a deal, and swapped their number 2600 with AR&TS for 2612

AR&TS currently lease 2600 from RRL, and it is one of 6 units (2600/2604/2605/2607/2609/2610) on long term hire to Rio Tinto Coal in Mozambique.

A few days after the above photo was taken, Rio Tinto Coal 005 met a sticky end

I have heard there are another dozen locos being moved from redbank to the Brisbane port in the next month or so, any ideas whether old 3100s make up the numbers?

Not a lot has changed on the control stands.  Speedo has changed.  ATP equipment removed.  ATP Cab Select switch is still in place.  Gauge for vacuum brakes (I assume) added, and radios changed.  Even still has the Station Protection indicator light beside the VCS light.
