Who decided that the people of South Australia - the only state not to be founded by transported convicts - are too stupid to step out of a train without falling to a horrible death and that they need to have their ears assaulted by the cheap speakers of the audio graffiti nanny on the approach to every single station? Or that the danger of level crossings will magically evaporate by bombarding passengers with audio graffiti three times a trip?

Who was the dumb person who got convinced people would actually listen instead of filtering out the background noise, and why haven't they been punished with demotion to a task more suitable to their level of intelligence, such as ticket checking duties at Elizabeth?

Is this just the department upping the ante in their efforts to permanently turn people off using the Belair line after the seven month shutdown failed to accomplish that end?

Shouldn't the department be focusing on something important, like maybe reminding infrastructure contractors that they are contractors who should be working and not public servants?

If you are involved at all with anything  at all to do with the public at large you will note that the public is stupid. You get all kinds of things done even with signs and announcements made but the public in general still will do something stupid. Were I volunteer I have seen this in action after telling a couple of children not to do something for their own safety the parents then let them do it. It just covers one's backside as if they did not warn them then some idiot would say they were never warned or something and make a court case out of it. This way at least they got a warning and if they do shut it out as background noise that is their problem not Adelaide Metro's who have warned them.

You would actually be really surprised at most times just how stupid some of the great unwashed (Public) can be when it comes to warnings etc. But if you don't warn these imbeciles that there is a danger etc you can be held responsible because you did not warn them of the danger etc. Yes nanny state rules and it is about time that people took the consequence of their actions upon themselves instead of blaming some one or something else. There is no real excuse for ignoring a warning though, it is up to the individual and too many today are willing to fight things in a court. Expect to see more as the years go on as well.

Siemens trams here in Melbourne have automated GPS announcements at the passing of EVERY SINGLE STOP now, it was only recently installed.  Major stops completely understandable but every single stop?  It's really wearing on a long trip.  Plus every few stops "Please ensure you have all your belongings with you before leaving the tram." and "Please ensure you have a valid ticket at all times" (their idea of humour I suppose).

To add insult to injury it's often wrong - something wrong with the location finders I suppose.  So if you are visually impaired it's often pointless anyway.

Wondered what this thread was about till I just encountered this. Pretty annoying on a multi stop trip. Add that to the repeated warning about crossing the line and the silences are getting shorter.

Truer words were never spoken SAR520SMBH! Even then they will try and pull the "I did not know stunt" though. It seems a case of overkill but everyone these days has to be told that you can't do this or that simply because common sense is no longer practiced by most.

Remember this is the same department who built a stair case over a freight line with NO disabled access at Blackwood. And now this crap every station, to add with this week's "safety message"! The people who it's aimed to have their headphones to loud to listen to "know when to cross the line"!!

What I find stupid is that this state is caught up on the wrong stupid people:

1. stupid person A - someone who decides to jump onto train tacks and play a game of Adelaide Metro roulett
2. stupid person B - who threatens a passenger on a train

Who does the Govt. deal with - A ! And what do they do with stupid person B - get some lard covered security guard who's about as useful as a pile of dog crap to "supervise" and "protect" the community.

Probably the same person who allowed advertising over the window space on busses and trams - Hard to see out especially when it rains!

David Peters: I blame too many lawyers and 'no win no fee' structures.  Lawyers take this bull-sh*t cases to court just to float them and it's gotten to a stage where companies/government settles out of court just to keep costs down.

I was speaking to someone who used to be a lawyer and there are just way too many graduates and not enough work - it's been that way for a long time.  You could see the writing on the wall when places like Flinders University spent a fortune building an enormous law school twenty years ago... like a great big graduate factory.  Where do they all go?  The ones lucky enough to get jobs often go into these "slip 'n sue" law practices where they try and dream up ambit claims to get themselves paid.

The PA madness gets worse! I used a train on the Belair line this afternoon, and noticed two things...

1. The revenue optimisation staff are actively asking people to call the department and complain about the needless noise pollution. I presume this means that their union has taken up the issue already and got the standard "computer says no" from the department.

2. I missed this the other day, but the mucking around with the PIS computers to add in the noise pollition has made them incapable of doing their proper job! I counted three wrong station announcements from the audio part of the system, and both LED displays in the car were insependently selecting locations for the next stop on a random basis, including a "change here for Tonsley and Noarlunga" on the approach to Torrens Park and a "alight here for local buses" on the way to Eden Hills.

Thankfully I knew the route well enough to get off at the correct stop, but for an infrequent user (or a regular not used to travelling at night) the many curves on the Belair line and frequent stops at non-station locations can be quite disorienting.

The response of the department to this will probably be to point out the bright side - that at least it was selecting random stations from the correct route rather than all stations. The last thing you'd want to hear on a nice trip into the hills would be an announcement that you're arriving at Munno Para.

Timekeeping was also useless. It arrived at Blackwood six minutes late and two minutes after the scheduled departure time of the 600 to Aberfoyle Park which was nowhere to be seen. Sucks if you're a person who might think there would be proper connections when a station is advertised as an interchange (according to the "alight here for local buses" announcement which should have been played there instead of at Eden Hills) and I'm glad I took the car instead of depending on the bus still being there when the train finally arrived.

Time keeping on anything in the Adelaide Metro is a work of fiction at most times, they should get Pulitzer Prize for these timetables at the best of times. But on the Belar service you have to expect some time loss as they are running trains through two or more construction sites at the moment at Wayville and Goodwood  for starters so there would be severe speed restrictions through these areas till it is all finished.
