Hello,

i was wondering if you could answer the following questions:

1. What does it mean if marker lights are white on each end of the motor cars
2. is it possible to get the "train tracker map thingy" that staff use at the control box on platforms
3. does anybody recommend software for piecing together DVA .mp3 files

1. I believe the white marker lights are for the train traveling forwards I.e first car "white", last car "red". I'm not too sure of that though (I've heard something similar to that). I need to corrected on that one.

2. No. Not As far as I know, however, I believe TripView have a 'real live' train tracker that tells you exactly how many minutes/hours until your train arrives.

3. Can't help you on that one sorry.

I do stand to be corrected.

What you do is you create a new trip. Lets say for example Central to Sutherland. After you have created the trip, you then press on it and it will take you too the indicator for the trips. You can choose to have indicator mode off. Then, there is a circle symbol at the top right hand corner. You click it, then you can view the rail network showing the current location of the trains. You can click on one, and it will tell you what times that are stopping at the stations.

Also tap the bottom bar a few times and it will show train type as well.

CMTheTrainGeek, here's a basic tour of some of the interesting things you can find in TripView Smile

Once you create your trip, say, Central > Redfern, you get to this screen. Tap the context menu button, then tap "View style" to view what you described as the "PID looking thing".

When you press the "GPS/target" button (for lack of a better word), it brings you to a nice map of the network with the real-time locations of the trains on the route you selected, not unlike the TLS system (which is only accessible from RailCorp computers, by the way).

Tap the bottom bar (highlighted in the second image below) FIVE times quickly, then tap on one of the train targets, and much more information is revealed, such as the consist and run number.

I've never used an iPhone before so I can't help you, but this information from Bus Australia might be useful regarding the iOS version of TripView. Smile

1. That the driver forgot to turn them red before he changed ends. They should be white on the front and red on the back.

2 and 3. See other posts.

One thing that puzzled me as a young Sydney child - why did some morning peak services on the Northern line go around the City Circle? Where did they go after they left Museum? Also I remember a morning suburban service going on the Northern line all the way to Gosford. What was the purpose of that service?

I think the purpose of that service was to form an extra train out of Gosford for the late morning peak, which went to Central via the Shore.

There was a 'reversal' in the afternoon. A early afternoon train from Central to Gosford via the Shore, which formed a Gosford to Central via Strathfield (Northern Line all stops).

Tripview is merely a prettified version of the RC TLS - That's all it is.
