Haha surely not Typhon, thinking maybe FIFO staying at the company's barracks for your shifts?

It claims to be 6 days on, 80 hours off. What is a driver gonna do during the 80 hours off? This is just over 3 days. So probably there won't be enough time for FIFO. This means you'll get time to yourself albeit maybe in a small one bedroom (with ensuite, shared cooking and laundry facilities). Similar to FIFO style accommodation, but living on site.

There is also no airport in Nebo, it is an isolated town in the middle of nowhere, so trying to attract candidates who live locally is difficult. Hence why they house drivers in camp style accommodation.

If just over 100km out of Mackay is isolated in the middle of nowhere I for one will gladly pack my bags and move for the chance of a position.

Doesn't suit me unfortunately, good luck to all who apply.

Well I decided to apply and try my luck, kinda really suits me. What I'd really like to know is what loco's they run up there and where they run to? Is the work always returning to home? Or barracks?
Cheers, Anthony.

From what I have seen in the past, it's mainly electric loco's (71 class) with the occasional diesel set (83 class) and they run the electric in distributed power mode.

Hey Steve82

I have advised before on this forum that Intermodal do not recruit Trainee's Drivers (have a relative at Chullora SFT) they put on qualified only. The only externally advertised entry level positions to intermodal operations are Trainee Shunters but they will recruit internally qualified drivers/2nd's first before doing this. Ask Stuart for bulk, he has said in the past that they may recruit Trainee Driver's for bulk operations later in the year, confirm with him if that is still the case.

Hi Guys

I am sorry I have not been around to reply to your questions, I have been on leave.

With the question on what 'camp style' accommodation means - it is very similar to a mine site, the accommodation itself is quite like a shipping container with full facilities within - king single, fridge, aicon, tv, bathroom etc... A home away from home for when you are not driving the locomotives.

Steve - your question on upcoming trainee roles in Bulk / Intermodal - We may have some needs before the end of the year however it is difficult to forecast, we have a number of needs for qualified drivers at the moment but nothing trainee level.

Hey hey Stuart,

How are things looking with the potential Adelaide depot traineeships? I remember you saying they'd be online in August/September pending approval.

Just touching base mate.

Cheers,
Rick.

Hi Rick

Quite right I did indeed say that, however it seems the business needs have since changed and the Trainee Loco roles we had pending for the Adelaide area are now cancelled. I am sorry it is not better news and there does not seem to be anything in the pipeline for the moment.

When that changes I will let you know.

Ahh bummer, I have to admit I was hoping to hear greater news! Ahh well, back to keeping the eyes peeled.

I am sorry mate, but we will have something eventually.

For those living in and around the Bowen area (QLD) we are currently looking for 6 Trainee Loco Drivers. (http://careers.asciano.com.au/caw/en/job/493224/trainee-locomotive-driver)

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via PM or reply in here.

Hi all

Have made it through some psych testing for Freightliner Aust and have an interview with them next week.

I'd like to thank all those PN drivers and HR reps (Stuart from Asciano) who helped me on these forums to get to this stage with advice and info to put into my CV and cover letter.

I'll keep you updated of how I go.

Cheers

Haha....cheers mate.

Attended the interview today. Surprisingly I was interviewed by only two H/R reps and after the initial get to know you and your motivation for applying, I was going to be asked 3-10 situational questions which I had to answer with examples preferably from jobs that I've had. Well.... I got asked 3 and I think I answered well enough to be in contention (gauging from their positive manner to my responses).
The 3 situational questions were very much based on their "culture" and used to determine whether you will fit into their organisation's culture rather than your technical abilities (a bit different to other operators).

Should know in a couple of weeks time...I'll keep you posted.

I work for a large customer of pn. Word amongs the pn guys is that they will be hiring this harvest- apparently this very month. Is there any truth in this? My contract runs out in January and pn seems a good career move. Would working with and around the trains on a daily basis hold me in good steed for a job? I have rail safety awareness.

Thanks for any insight

I would say you would have a leg up for sure. Try dropping a resume in at the Parkes office before they advertise with the Manager there & have a casual chat whilst your at it.

Thanks for your reply mate. Apparently they don't take resumes at the office but I might update the resume and get prepared anyways. Fingers crossed. This place is a great resource for interview, cover letter preparation etc. would love a career with pn every pn worker I know is stoked with their job Smile seem like a happy workforce from an outsider looking in Smile I wanna be part of it Smile

Hi Needrailjob

I have heard discussions in our business that we may be hiring qualified and trainee drivers in Victoria if this is where you were thinking?, if you would like to send me your resume directly we can have a more in-depth talk.

Feel free to PM me.

What the hell is happening with the company, are PN not sending a lot of drivers on leave due to lack of work in Victoria. Some depots are even offering re-deployment. How could we be looking for people here in Vic when half the state is on depot duties
