We simply do not have the money to undertake the re-gauge job in the next year unless we get a grant or someone gives us a HUGE donation
Do you have a idea/ball park figure of what it will cost to re-gauge the bogies?

The cost of the re-gauge. It's a bit of an unknown quantity but $100,000 would be a good starting point. Be assured that we are lobbying hard for funds and have spent a great deal of effort in getting the Walhalla Goldfields Railway into the minds of politicians [fed/state/local] and govt. bureaucrats. Our Centenary event in May was a great time for this. It's a long hard road but we are making progress. In fact having the DH actually helps...now we have something to show rather than just talking about a mythical beast!

The purchase and delivery of DH37 really came out of the blue. The DH class is identified in our business plan for the extension to the line to Erica as being very suitable...but this plan is still under development...so we kinda lucked out that the Tender for a DH came up when it did and that we were successful. Our first task is to undertake a full engineering assessment [Friday was the first time we had seen the loco], a sexy re-paint and then work on the re-gauge. But the reality is that the will be some time away. We simply do not have the money to undertake the re-gauge job in the next year unless we get a grant or someone gives us a HUGE donation [hint hint] as we have other important projects that are ahead of DH37 in the queue.

Ah yes I see what you mean! Caught between a rock and a hard place. You just know that suitable Locos are not going to be there when you need them.
You did the right thing.
I wish Wodonga was closer than it is. I would want to be part of your Railway, sadly nothing much happens this far North of Victoria and I am unable to drive 400km round trip to Seymour either.
Really do wish you guys good luck and maybe a grant in the near future.
Bringing 7A home was a real good thing, hope your ties with Puffing Billy stay strong, and perhaps you can repeat it another day.

Well what was chalked in 7A's firebox on the last run, suspicions arouse

In a bit of breaking news, DH72 that was withdrawn from sale in November 2010 was put back on the market in April and has been purchased by the Walhalla Goldfields Railway. She'll travel south a some stage to join her sister DH37. We'll keep you posted.

We have made several [failed] attempts to get details and some reaction from QR or QR Coal in relations to DH71 and so far we've got nowhere!

Does anyone know why someone renumbered DH59 to DH31 in the first place?

The explanation can be found here in the Preservation Forum. We don't need a rehash of it here.

I've been looking on the Canetrains website, seeing on Tully Mill's stored locomotive gallery that both CCO1 (ex-DH4) & CC03 (ex-DH56) have been dismantled, does that mean they are officially scrapped? using their parts for their rebuilt 2 foot gauge counterparts?

DH71, the final DH owned by QR is up for tender [closes 15 June @ 10am]...it would appear to be scrap value only...it's a wreck!

Just for FYI's sake. DH14 used to operate with the Ghan Preservation Society here in SA (as I'm a croweater), however in recent times the society somewhat went bust, but it's still believed that the loco is here, unsure whether it is operational or not.

Cheers,
Daniel.

DH71 is now under the care of Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway.

Is DH73 still at Yukan?

It became apparent that both CCO1 (ex-DH4) & CC01 (ex-DH56) are now considered scrapped at Tully Mill

Is anyone aware that DH71 has been removed from Rockhampton and heading over to Swanbank?

DH37 at Walhalla Goldfields Vic, DH31 (formerly DH59) at PBR Vic. Also quite a number of them found a new home in Vietnam.

Upon going through this thread, it appears I'm about 12 months too late posting this information. Better late than never I guess. Smile

DH # 38 is at Rosewood Historical yard in running order and you can pay for a drive of it.    I have a 1/6 scale model half built for 7.25" gauge track.

Anyone followed on both DH32 & DH55's exportation to Malaysia and their current status in the country? In the early 90's they were sold to Relk Corporation in Malaysia and regauged to 1000mm before exported. I understand that both of them then sold to Keretapi Tanah Melayu (Malayan Railways Limited) and repainted to KTM silver, red and white livery?

DH 56 was the permanent shunting loco @ Roma for years, I'd like a few bucks for every hour I've spent on it,,  Smile  .

Correct, DH45 [MMY45] is heading for the Mary Valley Heritage Railway in Gympie.
walhallarail

Whilst DH45 did indeed head to MVHR, that was only a home base for it. The loco is owned by a private individual and is now at Warwick, on loan to Southern Downs Steam Railway.
